Celebrating World Card Making Day

Jillibean Soup is celebrating World Card Making Day a little early and has three brilliant card challenges up on their blog.  So I decided to get a leg up on my Christmas cards and used one of their sketches.

I used their Christmas Cheer Chowder collection for my card.  I just love the beautiful pastel colors in it, especially the pink.  If you are looking for some inspiration, pop over to their website and check it out.

Have a lovely weekend!

Whooo Loves You

I've got the cutest little card for you today.  It was inspired by a card sketch over at Tuesday Morning Sketches.

I found the little owl in my bowl of metal charms and decided to create a card around it.  I also used leftover paper (Authentique Utopia Collection) from a scrapbook page I made earlier in the week, as well as Close to My Heart Whooo Loves You and Tiny Typewriter Alphabet stamp set.

Here is what the inside of the card looks like.

Thanks for popping by! Have a great day!

Exquisite View

Good morning friends!  Today I have another fun picture from our trip to St. Croix last July.  The picture was taken on a pier that was part of Duggan's Reef restaurant.  What a view!

I created my layout around 123 Challenge Blog.  To participate, you needed to use a stencil, use the color violet, and use the word exquisite.  I used a really large stencil, Gesso, and Glimmer Mist for my background.  I painted the frame, hearts, and letters with violet and gold paint. I also stamped on the exquisite letters with Stamp-It Australia's Birds and Butterflies and Staz-On ink to give it a little more texture.  My hands are seriously inky!

I love vacation layouts, though they do make me wish I was still there! This layout features pictures from Captain Morgan's Rum Distillery in St. Croix. All Captain Morgan's products get distilled in St. Croix before being shipped to the continental U.S.   At the end of the tour, we were able to taste several of their rums.  I had no idea there were so many different flavored rums! Yummy!

My layout was inspired by the September "jump start" sketch challenge from The Scraproom Blog.  The Scraproom has a Flavors of the Month Kit club that is loaded with all kinds of scrapbook papers and embellishments.   At only $23.95 a month, it's a bargain!  You don't need to be a kit club subscriber in order to do their sketch layout though, so pop by if you are looking for some inspiration.

Thanks for stopping by,

It's been years since my husband and I went to the Bahamas together on a romantic getaway, so I was tickled to come across these older photos over the weekend. My amazing mother-in-law watched the kids for us so that we could have five nights to ourselves at a Sandals Resort.  We are very blessed in the family department!

I found the absolutely most perfect sketch for my layout over at Creative Scrappers.  (By the way, they are having a Design Team call through the end of this month, so head over there if you are interested in becoming a part of their amazing team.)

The compass is made of acetate and I used glimmer mist to color the paper underneath it.  The quote which spans across the compass says, "The best things in life are the people we love, the places we've been, and the memories we've made across the way."  True enough!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Enjoy your day!

In Love and Over the Moon

Today's layout is of my children and I.  The picture was taken for Mother's Day's a couple of years ago.  We spent the day with our friends, having a fabulous all-you-can-eat brunch.  Mother's Day is one of the few days I can get my son to wear a collared shirt, so I make sure to get pictures :)

I just love the quotes I used on my page, "You will forever by my always" and "In love and over the moon".   Both express the way I feel about my children.  I used Fancy Pants Design's Burlap & Bouquets collection and my layout was inspired by Let's Get Sketchy's layout challenge.

Picture Perfect

I can't paint.  Like at all.  So I love taking those classes where everyone in the class paints the same picture.  It feels really stressful at the time I'm doing it, but it's so cool when we get done and everyone has a picture in their hands.  This layout is of the 3rd such class that I took with my sister.  (She is on the left.) She and I have always been super close, even when her husband's job took her all the way to Tennessee.  (She's since moved back to California, thank goodness!!!)  This is my favorite picture I have ever painted too, since I'm such a beach junkie.  I even hung it in my living room :)

My layout was inspired by a sketch over at Let's Get Sketchy.  To create the look, I dripped Twinkling H2O water colors at the top of the page and then let it drip down a bit, before letting the colors dry.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

You're Pretty Awesome

I absolutely love today's card and it came together so quickly!  This is why I am so totally addicted to sketches.

My card was inspired by Stick it Down's September card challenge.  They also have a couple scrapbook challenges every month as well, so go check them out if you love to scrapbook too.  I used stamps from Heidi Swapp Arrows and Simon Says Stamp Jumbo Stripes.  The colors are Memento's Summer Sky and Danube Blue.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Happy crafting!

Coffee and Friends are the Perfect Blend

Today is the day!  Today is the Coffee Loving Cardmakers 2016 Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!  And today was a perfect day to create a card for the blog hop.  Not only was I enjoy a nice cup of coffee while I created it(okay maybe two), I did it with my girlfriend, Stacy.  Coffee & friends really are the perfect blend!

There's still plenty of time to join this awesome blog hop, if you want to.  Just link up a newly created FALL themed coffee, tea, &/or cocoa project over at Coffee Loving Cardmakers.

Enjoy your day!

Friendship isn't a big thing

Today's scrapbook layout is of my best friend, Betty.  She and I have been friends for over thirteen years!  (If you're reading this Betty, doesn't that make us sound so old?!)  We have one of those relationships where we might go a week or two without a text or email, but it just doesn't matter at all. We just have one long conversation that gets put down and picked right back up when we see each other.  And if sh!t hits the fan, the other would come running.  There's a wonderful security in long-time friendships, isn't there?

I used a beautiful one-page sketch challenge from Stick It Down for inspiration.  The paper was primarily the DCWV Solstice stack. The vellum quote from Quick Quotes reads, "Friendship isn't a big's a million little things."

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you have a fantastic day!

Celebrating You

Good morning friends!  Today I have a fun card and tag for you, using Fancy Pant's Millie & June collection.

To make this quick and easy card, I used a card sketch from Feeling Sketchy card challenge.  It's tough to tell in the photo, but the staples I used on the strips of paper are bright pink!  The "Celebrating" is a vibrant gold foil.

Update: My card was one of Feeling Sketchy's Top Pick! Yay!

You can see the gold foil a little more clearly on my tag.  The "gorgeous" part of the sentiment is also gold.

I used the beautiful picture over at the Tag You're It Challenge (specifically the gold in the picture and the word Hello).

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great day!

Happy Day CAS Acetate card

Sometimes it's fun to play with art supplies without a clear idea of what you are going to make.  That's just what I did with today's card.  I just got out a sheet of clear acetate and a variety of Tim Holtz's alcohol inks and just played around.  Here's what I came up with:

I'm not sure who the stamp set is from, having lost the packaging ages ago.  The embossed, square die cut was cut using a Spellbinders die.  I am entering my card in the following challenges:

House of Cards - Use a bird and/or color challenge
CAS Mix Up Card challenge - Stamping, Marbling, and... (embossed die cutting)

Enjoy your day!

DIY Ocean Canvas Painting

Today I have something a little different to share with you - a painting project I helped my daughter create over the weekend.  She has decided that would like her room to have an ocean theme, so I thought we could create something together to put up on her walls.  Gotta love mother/daughter crafting moments!

These BIG canvases measure 16 x 20 and will take up a good portion of wall space.  We got our inspiration from this beautiful pin on Pinterest.  It didn't link to actual instructions though, so we just winged it.

The project itself only cost about $25 for the canvases, acrylic paint, and a few paintbrushes.  We were able to paint them in about 2 hours.  (Dollar Store tablecloths work great to protect a large surface.

She is super excited to get them up on her walls, as you can see.  Guess it's time to paint those walls...

Have a great day!

Photo Op

Everyone loves a photo op!  This photo op was at our annual Shark Week party.

I created my layout based on Sketch-N-Scrap's new layout sketch this week.  The paper was from Paper House's Beach's of the World paper set.  The bubbles and fish rub-ons were also from Paper House.

Here is their original scrapbook sketch:

Best Friend

Lately I've been feeling so utterly grateful for all my amazing friends and am featuring one of my bffs, Stacy, in today's layout.  She and I met white adopting our daughters in China and have been close every since, despite living about 300 miles away from each other.

I used Fancy Pants Millie & June collection for my layout.  I love all the beautiful gold accents in it.  The photos were taken in St. Barts.  Love all the colors in the sunsets there. The layout is based on a gorgeous September sketch challenge by My Creative Sketches.

Thanks for stopping by!

Today You Are You

Quick card post here.  I found a beautiful card sketch over at Sketch-N-Scrap and promptly made this birthday card.  One of the things I really like about this website is that they create sketches for both cards and layouts.

Here is their original card sketch:

I made my cards with some scraps of paper I had on hand from other projects.  Cards are such a great way to use up bits of paper lying around.  I embossed the circles using my Grand Caliper and the Beaded Circles Die and Splendid Circles Die.

Update: Sketch N Scrap choose me as their September Featured Card Designer!  Thank you Sketch N Scrap!!!

Life's Music is Forever Changing

Today's layout is of my daughter's 2nd grade school photo from last year.   It's hard to believe that she  is almost nine years old already!  It seems like yesterday we were gathering her in our arms for the first time.  Life's music is forever changing...

I used a Sketch by Bev Code over at Creative Inspiration and am entering my layout over at the Butterfly Challenge (L is for Letters and/or Lavender with butterflies).  The vellum quote is from Quick Quotes and the paper is from Paper House's Beaches of the World.

Enjoy your day!

Happy Times

Happy Friday!  Today I have a layout featuring my friend, Pernille.  She and I share a love of the ocean and outdoors.

My layout was inspired by a couple of fantastic challenges.  The first is a sketch from Stuck?! Sketches.  They are celebrating a September Anniversary bash this month.  The second challenge is a product challenge from The Studio Challenges. They have all kinds of different challenges every couple of weeks.   This week they'd like to see frames on your scrapbook pages.

And since I had a few leftover scraps from my layout, I created a quick and easy card based on Sketch Saturday's card sketch challenge.  Can you tell I love this card sketch?  This is the fourth card I made with it :)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a fabulous Friday!

Watercolor Embossing Resist Technique

Hello crafters,

I felt like painting today but didn't have a lot of time, so I decided to make a card using gold embossing and watercolors.  This is a clean and simple technique that anyone can do.  First, I heat embossed my flowers onto my cardstock.  Then I sprayed the card stock with just a little water so that the watercolors would blend together.  After that, it was just a matter of painting the inside of the flowers.  The heat-embossed gold image kept all the paints confined to the inside of the petals.  In fact, you can paint right over the gold and it just slides off and keeps its sparkly finish.  I used the same technique for the "thinking of you" sentiment.

I am entering my card in the card sketch challenge over at Sketch Saturday and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge (clean and simple).

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies used: stamps:Sheena by Sheena Douglass and Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous, Twinkling H2Os watercolors (Wild Blueberry, Black Cherry, Plum Crazy); Top Boss Emossing stamp pad, Tsukineko #01 Gold embossing powder, Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock, Quick Quotes Very Berry Chalking Ink

You Only Live Once

Good morning crafting friends!  Today's layout makes me wish summer was still here.  The photo was taken at Sycamore Canyon Beach in Malibu during our annual moms & kids' camping trip.  My girlfriend (on the right) in the picture came for the day and brought Sangria with her.  Her husband had made it for us.  Isn't that sweet?! It was perfect for the hot, sunny day.

The layout was inspired by two lovely challenge blogs, Stuck?! Sketches and White...with 1 (yellow).  Using only one color on a layout was definitely a challenge for me, but I enjoyed making it work with various inks, pens, sprays and paint.

Update: My layout was featured over at White with 1!  So honored!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day :)

Quick and Easy Cards

Good morning crafters!  Sketch Saturday's latest sketch made today's cards so easy and quick to create.

Not only did these cards take only about ten minutes to make, I love how they turned out.  This one was created with rub-ons in the center and chipboard letters.

This one was created with a stamp from Tim Holtz and a couple of Studio Calico butterfly stickers.

Live Everyday With Gratitude

Happy Friday!  Fall is just around the corner, so I thought I would scrap a couple of older pictures of my daughter.  The photos were taken one year apart, one during her Transitional Kindergarten class and one during her Kindergarten class.  I think it's adorable that she portrayed an Indian one year during a performance and a Pilgrim the following year.

I used Brenda's September Sketch Challenge and Rochelle's September This or That Challenge to inspire me.  Rochelle's challenge was to use either puffy stickers OR enamel shapes.  I chose to use some white puffy stickers that are from Pink Paislee. I used Creative Memories Cutting System to cut my pictures into circles.  The doily and scalloped circles were leftovers from another layout and I sprayed them with various inks to match the papers in my layout.  The papers were part of a collection called Autumn Harvest.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Love Love Love

Good Morning crafters,

Today I have a colorful background to share with you.  I create it with a 12x12 stencil and a myriad of spray inks.  No only did I spray the stencils in a variety of colors, but I also sprayed a bit of yellow and pink over my pattern once it dried.  I just love how it turned out.

My husband captured this picture of my daughter and I during Mother's Day about a year and a half ago.  The beautiful background is a Four Seasons where my family took me for brunch.  I still need to scrapbook that meal.  All I can say is yum!

I am entering my layout over at the Butterfly + L is for letters and/or Lavender over at the Butterfly Challenge.  You have got to love a challenge blog where everything you create has a butterfly in it! That is my kind of challenge!

This weekend I'll be at a dude ranch (that I once visited with grandparents when I was 11) with my 13 year old son.  I can't wait to ride horses, swim, hike, and just hang out with him.  There is absolutely no cell service there so he won't be tempted to play on his phone, as he likes to do.  (I have to admit I'm guilty of this quite a bit too, especially with Pokemon Go) so it'll be a nice technology break for me, as well.)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Believe in Yourself

Good morning friends!  Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge has a new challenge up for the month of September.  This month's challenge is to use red in your layout. So I decided to make red the primary color for my layout.

I used My Mind's Eye Fun Day collection and some pictures of a hiking group I belong to - Hiking Divas.  Don't you just love that name?!  It's funny because as a group, we are about the most down-to-earth women you've met.  We also sometimes refer to our hiking group as our international group, because we have women in it who are from all over the world with lots of different accents.  We have red tank tops that we like to wear for 5ks.  In the bottom picture, I am super happy because this was the first 5k where I had run the entire race.  I have asthma, so I have never really tried running.  It was extremely difficult for me, but oh so gratifying when I crossed that finish line!

As usual, I started my layout with a sketch.  This one was sketch created by Brenda Ragsdale.

As always, thank you for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Update:  My layout was a September Favorite over at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge!  Thank you so much!!

Do you instagram?  I'm just starting one up, so I'd love to have a couple followers.  Thanks!

Caribbean Life

Happy Monday!  Today I have a double page layout to share with you.

The photos are of my favorite place, Saint Barthélemy. If I won the lottery, that's where I'd move to!  As you can see, it is an incredibly beautiful, fun place. My husband and some of our friends went there to celebrate my 40th birthday.  I pretty much celebrated my 40th birthday for about six months last year ;)
Here's a couple close-ups of the individual pages.

I based my two-page layout on the sketch challenge over at Let's Scrap.

Update: My Caribbean Life layout won over at Let's Scrap!  Thank you Let's Scrap!

Thanks for stopping by!

Wiley Coyote Hike

Happy Sunday friends!  Hope you are all having a great weekend.

Today I created a scrapbook layout using two challenges.  The first one is from  Challenge YOUrself.  Their challenge is to use a photo of yourself and use the following art for inspiration:

I used the trees in the picture as my inspiration.  It reminded me of a fun hike we had taken a few years ago.  It was led by a ranger who told us all about coyotes during the hike.  We also got to feel a coyote that had passed away in the nearby mountains.  At the end of the hike, around sunset, we even heard a few coyotes howling and saw them in the distance.

To kick start my layout, I used the latest and greatest sketch challenge over at Sketches in Thyme.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Rider #7012

Happy Friday crafters!  My kids are so excited that this is a holiday weekend and they get three days off school.  Getting back into the swing of the school year is always tough in the beginning and they are ready to sleep in.  My daughter especially loves pajama days and would schedule them for every weekend, if she could.

Today I thought I would share a couple of things I've been doing.  This fun layout is of my son doing a Mountain Bike race last year.  It was his first year of biking, but he absolutely loved it.  I'm excited to see how he improves this next year.  He's grown about five inches, so I'm guessing he'll probably be faster.

The other thing I did this week was create 6" by 6" envelopes.  I am constantly creating cards, but I often do not have envelopes for this size.   I love to turn on a movie and just make the envelopes all at once.  It takes no time at all to create a bunch using an Envelope Punch Board.

I like to create envelopes out of paper that I don't love.  I just create them with the patterned side on the inside.  It's a great way to use up your paper stash, while saving a little money.  At just under $14, this tool is one of my favs.  And, I have so much paper (what crafter doesn't?!), it makes sense for me to create my own.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have great weather this weekend, wherever you are at and get some crafty time in!
