Guess Who Book Fair game

Hello Friends.  Today I have a different kind of crafty project to share with you.  This week I've been co-chairing the kids' Fall book fair.  One of the things I was put in charge of was creating a game for the kids.

I got this awesome idea from this blog:   Let me tell you, it was a big hit!  The object of the game is to guess the name of the character silhouettes.  Three random entries with the correct names on it wins a $10 gift certificate.  To create the large game I used the Mickey Mouse and Friends, Happy Hauntings, Mickey Font, Happily Ever After, and the Spongebob and Friends Cricut cartridges.  I also used google to find a few more silhouettes.  I created the circular backgrounds with my Martha Stewart Circle Edge punch and Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities.

I also put up this "Books We Love" sign.  I created it with A Child's Year Cricut cartridges for the images and the Mickey Font cartridge for the letters.  The children wrote down their favorite book, their name, and their teacher's name.  Again, three random entries won $10 gift certificates for the book fair.

My son Nick, was so thrilled that I was hanging out at his school every day and came to see me every recess and lunch.  During the school carnival, he helped with handing out knickknacks for almost three hours!  That's a good boy!

My husband (who was suppose to get dunked but didn't because a kid wanted his spot in the dunk tank) manned one of the registers for a couple of hours.  The kids' grandparents took Lara all over the carnival while we were working.

Here's Nick checking out some books.

Lara getting ready to color a Halloween bookmark.

I sure learned a lot about book fairs this week.  I think I'll be quite a bit more organized for next one in Spring!  Have a great Halloween and weekend :)

You Make Me Smile

It's a new week and I'm starting it off right with the newly released Floral Stitch Embossalicious Embossing Folder from Crafter's Companion.   This cool folder alternates embossing and debossing faux-stitched flowers and square borders.

To create my card, I sprayed my 12 x 12 Luxury Centura Pearl Snow White Cardstock with a couple of Dylusion Ink sprays.  This paper has a beautiful shine to it, even after spraying it with ink.  Once it dried, I used my Grand Caliper to emboss the 6 x6 " Floral Stitch embossing folder.  Using a fine black pen, I carefully went over all the embossed flowers and borders.  I did this twice so I could cut out a couple of flowers to layer around my sentiment.

The "You Make Me Smile" sentiment was stamped from the A Little Bit Sketchy Only Words From The Heart stamp set using Jet Black Staz-On Ink.  For a little added sparkle, I added some small pink gems to the center of the flowers.

Thanks for stopping by today.  If you'd like to check out all the Embossalicous Embossing Folders, you can find them here.   I hope you had a great weekend!

Hip Hip Hurray!

The Bebunni collection is almost here!  I am very excited to share this week's sneak peek with you!  This adorable little bundle of fur is from the latest stamp collection, Bebunni.  Isn't he yummy?

I colored this cutie with my Spectrum Noir alcohol markers IG1, IG3, PP1, PP3, AND PP4.

To create the sparkly birthday letters, I applied crystal lacquer to the letters and then sprinkled loose glitter over the glue.  I let each letter dry before going on to the next color.  While this was easy, it did take a lot of drying time.  The effect was worth the time though :)

There are quite a few stamps in the Bebunni collection, so be sure to check out the Crafter's Companion Facebook page for even more sneak peaks.  Crafter's Companion has some awesome Birthday Week Specials going on right now too.  Take advantage of some amazing deals, FREE continental US shipping on all orders over $50, double loyalty points, and earn FREE gifts as well!

Have a fabulous weekend :)

Oh Hello

I don't know about you, but October is CRAZY busy for my family.  We have a handful of birthdays, Halloween, a school carnival and week long book fair, along with the usual kid activities and sports.  So when I feel like I can't squeeze in a few hours of crafting time over the weekend, I like to turn to clean and simple card sketch sites for a quick crafting fix.

My card today was based on one such challenge blog, Case this Sketch!  This clean and simple challenge blog always has gorgeous CAS sketches.

So even though I just had a few minutes to get my craft on, I was still able to make this cool card using Amy Tan's Sketchbook collection :)

Here's what the rest of our weekend looked like:

 Nick's family birthday party

Sleepover at the Santa Barbara Zoo

5K Color Run in Ventura CA

I'm going to take it easy today!  Have a great Monday friends!

Creating a scene with A Little Bit Oriental collection

Good morning peeps,

I recently joined an Alcohol Ink group on Facebook and the amazing creations I have seen on it inspired me to sit down and play with the Adironack Inks I own, also with the newly released A Little Bit Oriental stamp sets from Sheena Douglass.  I used a 12 x 12 inch piece of clear acetate as my background.

I used the following Adirondack Alcohol Inks: Butterscotch, Watermelon, Citrus, Sail Boat Blue, Stream, Gold, and Silver.  I also used an alcohol blending solution to help the colors blend together.  Once the alcohol inks dried, I stamped images from the A Little Bit Oriental Koi and WaterliliesLanternsSakura, and Oriental Silhouette stamp sets in  Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Next I sprayed the entire scene with Gold Spray Sparkle Glitter Varnish.  You guys know how I love to added glitter and shine to my projects :)   I just can't help myself.  In person, this scene is much more sparkly and dynamic.  I just love it.  I think I may need to pick up some more ink so I can experiment some more with this technique!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Have a good one!

What's Your Poison?

Good morning crafty friends!  With Halloween looming on the horizon, I decided to make a spooky card this weekend.

The focus of my card is the cool bottle stamp from Sheena Douglass A Little Bit Magical Honesty stamp set.  I made the bottles look more like potions by coloring them in Halloween colors.  I used my Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers OR1, OR2, OR3, GG1, GG2, GG4, LV1, LV2, LV3, CG1.  To make them stand out even more I added Diamond Stickles to them and adhered them to the patterned paper with Double-Sided foam adhesive.

The ultra cool saying, "What's Your Poison?" is from Sheena Douglass A Little Bit Magical Knowledge stamp set and stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  I also inked up the edges of all my paper with Black Soot Distress Ink before gluing them down with Collall Tacky Glue.

So what's your poison?  My new poison has been peach tea from Teavana.  A girlfriend of mine introduced me to it.  Now I've always been a coffee drinker, but this tea is really cool.  It looks like a huge seed when you buy it.  After it gets dropped into hot water though, it opens up into a beautiful large flower.  Cool, right?  And it's really yummy, too :)  Got a favorite tea or coffee that you'd recommend?  I'd love to hear about it.  It's always fun to try new things!

Have a wonderful day!

Introducing the new Stamp-It Australia Twinkle collection

Good morning crafty friends.  If you love to make Christmas projects like me, you will want to definitely check out Stamp-It Australia's new Twinkle collection being released next month.  I've got a tiny sneak peak of one of the stamps on my card today.

Don't you just love this reindeer holding an ornament?  He is part of the Believe Stamp set which compliments the I Believe! 6x6 Embossalicious embossing folder so beautifully.  I accented my embossed image with New Sprout Memento Ink.  All the wonderful glitter on my die cut and background paper came from my Silver Spray and Sparkle Glitter varnish.  Christmas cards are always better with a little glitter :)

To see even more wonderful sneak peaks of the Stamp-It Australia Twinkle collection, be sure to visit the Crafter's Companion blog.  The stamp sets are all so beautiful and perfect for stamping this time of time.

Have a great weekend everyone.  Hope you get a little crafty time to yourself :)

A Tweet card

Good morning friends!  I have an all-occasion card today using my A Little Bit Magical Honesty stamp set.  The gorgeous bird image makes for a 'tweet card, don't you think?

I colored this cute little bird with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers.  Here's the breakdown of the colors I used:

Bird:  TB4, TB5, TB6, JG2, JG3, JG4, BG7, BG9
Branch: EB4, EB5
fruit: PL3, PL5

The "For You" sentiment is also part of the Honesty stamp set. I added a few blue and green feathers I bought at a local craft store to add a little pizzazz to the card.

You can see more great ideas using this stamp set over at Sheena Douglass' website.

Crafter's Companion October Baby challenge

Good morning friends!  This month's crafty Crafter's Companion challenge is to make a project using a "baby" theme.  The Design Team are making baby cards all month long as a part of a virtual baby shower for Sara and we'd love for you to play along with us.  You can make a scrapbook page, a card, a bag, a tag, anything with a baby theme is great.

I used Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers to color this adorable expecting mommy.  The stamp is from .  Here is a breakdown of how I colored my card.  First I colored the mom's dress, hair bow, and shoes with colors BT4, BT5, BT7.

Next I used Spectrum Noir colors LY2, LY3, CT3 for the mom's apron and LG2, LG3 for the baby's swaddling blanket.

Using the colors FS1, FS2, FS3, I then colored the baby and mother's skin.

Lastly, I used GB8, GB9, and GB10 to color her hair.  I made it a bit messy looking, as new moms tend to be ;)  I remember my time as a mom to a newborn baby.  The only reason my hair was even put up was so the baby couldn't yank it all out!

Once my stamp was colored, I then die cut my image.  I also die cut the sentiment, "Time to Celebrate "(Angelica and Friends Jessica stamp set) which I had stamped with the Memento Teal Zeal.

I wanted to use a green ribbon on my card that would match the colors I used in coloring my S.w.a.l.k. New Mum stamp set, so I pulled out a cream ribbon which I customized by coloring it with the LG3 Spectrum Noir marker.  I used the bigger chisel end to do this quickly.  To make it easier, I taped down my ribbon to a paper towel before coloring it.

To pop out my sentiment, I also used the LG3 pen to create a faux stitching around the circle and a quick dot in each of the smaller circles.  I  adhered it to my card with Double-Side adhesive foam tape.

Here's another look at the completed card.

Hope you can join our month long virtual baby shower for Sara.  One lucky winner will be chosen at random to win a $30 voucher from Crafter's Companion!  Be sure to link up here.

Have a great day!

First Day

Hello Everyone.  It is overcast and cold here today, brrr!  The perfect kind of day for scrapbooking :)

The layout is of the kids' first day of school.  The paper is from Bella Blvd.  I created the layout based on Sketch-N-Scrap's first October sketch challenge.

The kids' school year seems to be going great so far.  The kids like their teachers and I am volunteering in Lara's kindergarten classroom a couple times a week, which thrills her to no end :)  The kids are so darn darn cute at that age!

Enjoy the rest of your day!
