Follow your Heart

Happy Friday friends!  It's almost the start of a three day weekend!  Hurray!  Our big plans for the weekend include a Dodger game (caramel corn here I come), going to see Planes, and one of Nick's friends coming over.  I'm hoping maybe the kids will sleep in a little too :)

I have a quick and easy card to share with you too.  It is based on another cool card sketch by Sketch-N-Scrap.  You have about a day left to participate in their August sketches, so if you have 10 minutes, you should totally try this sketch out.

The paper is from MME Cut and Paste and some Pink Paislee packaging that I repurposed.  The 3-d follow your heart sticker is from MME Sky's the Limit collection.

Now that Summer is over, I thought I'd share our Summer to do list.  We got about 2/3 of it done and I am pretty happy with that.  Between the kids' day camps they had on and off, and me getting pneumonia in June and bronchitis in July, I feel like 2/3 of the list was a big accomplishment :)  I think next year we'll par our list down a bit to a more realistic number of things to do.

Hope you have a fabulous weekend and get a little crafting time to yourself.

be happy find joy all around you canvas

Good morning crafters!  Today is the kids first day back to school.  Nick starts 5th grade this year, while Lara starts Kindergarten.  It's so quiet here without them!

I want to share a beautiful rainbow canvas I made today.  I had so much fun making this.  There is nothing I like more than a rainbow of bright colors.  Our family went to visit our friends in Las Vegas.  It was my bff Stacy who had this great idea that we would make canvas together.  So cool of her, right?  (She actually gave me a couple of canvases and I am working on another one for Nicholas.  He's been asking me to make his something for his room.)

I got my inspiration from this gorgeous canvas made by Juliana Michaels on the Bobunny website.   I just had to make one like it for myself.  I used mostly Pink Paislee, Prima, and Petaloo embellishments which were originally white.  The background paper is from Pink Paisee's mistable collection and I also used some multi-medium matte with a few stencils to add texture to the canvas.  I mostly used Dylusions sprays for the colors, with the exception of the sweet cherry red which was from Heidi Swapp, and the Dark Blue which was from Tattered Angels.  The mistable sentiment in the center of my canvas is also from Tattered Angeles and says, "be happy find joy all around you".

For a bit of sparkle, I added tattered angels Glimmer Glam to all the flowers.  Here's a few close up of the canvas.

I am entering my rainbow canvas in the the following challenges:

Simon Says stamp challenge - Anything goes
Lexi's Creations - sparkle and shine
Make my Monday - Anything but a card
Paper Girls challenge blog - photo inspiration (lots of flowers)

And here's a pic of my kiddos going off for their first day of school today.  Lara was a little nervous going into her classroom.  I hope she made a friend!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Have a good one!

You're My Best Friend

Happy Monday friends!  How was your weekend?  I celebrated my weekend with one of my best friends, Stacy.  It was her birthday on Saturday, so I made this card for her using the S.w.a.l.k. Best Friends stamp set.

After stamping the Best Friends image with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock, I colored the girls using the Spectrum Noir alcohol markers PL1, PL2, CR5, CR6, FS1, FS3, GB2, GG3, GB4, TN2, TN4, TN5, TN7, TN8, and EB8.  I also added a little Diamond Stickles to their dresses and hair bows.

Speaking of hair bows, I went shopping for girly clothes for Lara last week.  A girl has got to have accessories with her clothes, right?  So we had a fun time picking out some hair bows to go with her new outfits.  Fun!

Kindergarden is just two days away.  Where did the time go?

Have a great day!

Christmas Dreams

Good morning scrappers.  Today I have another layout using a sketch challenge from Sketch-n-Scrap.  I've been trying to scrap my older pictures, which in this case is about a year and half ago.

All the beautiful paper, stickers, and die cuts are from jillibean soup's Christmas Cheer Chowder collection (my current paper obsession, clearly).  I popped up a few die cut for a little dimension using double sided foam adhesive.

Hope you are having a great week.  We are busy getting ready for school, as the kids go back next week.  It's going to be so quiet without them here!

Enjoy your weekend!

One stamp, three cards

Happy Friday friends!  I am so excited about this weekend.  We are taking the kids to an observatory and planetarium show and I can't wait to see what they think.  It's been forever since I've been to one. I think being able to go to new places and see it through your children's eyes is definitely one of my favorite perks of parenthood :)

Before I head into weekend mode, I have a few quick cards to share with you.  I've been just gaga about my new Snowflake stamp from Stamp-It Australia and yesterday I dragged out my watercolor paints and embossing powder and had fun just playing around with the different colors and my Snowflake stamp.

If you click on the picture, you can really see all the shine from oh-so-glimmery Centura Luxury paper I used as well.  I think I may have combined some of my berry and purple embossing powders though, as I couldn't get one of them to fit back in it's jar...whoops!  I think the card I embossed with white is my favorite.

You can get the Snowflake stamp this weekend (and only this weekend and then it's gone) for free with a $50 purchase over at Crafter's Companion Online store.

Hope you have a fantastic Friday!

Good morning crafters,

I have an early post today as the kiddos and I are heading out to the L.A. zoo today with some friends.  They have a really cool new reptile house there that the kids love.  Since it's going to be a hot day, the reptiles might be the only animals moving around!

The gorgeous paper, stickers, mini flashcard and die cuts is again from the new jillibean soup Christmas Cheer Chowder.  The green fiber I wrapped around the paper and made a bow with in the center of the card is from Close to My Heart.  I made my card using inspiration from Sketch-N- Scrap card sketch layout and ABC Christmas Challenge - P is for ... challenge.

I hope you have a fabulous day.

Elf was here

Today I am sharing another card from the all new collection from jillibean soup called Christmas Cheer Chowder.  Isn't the little elf die cut the cutest?!

The elf and stars are die cuts, while the words, "Fa-la-la-la", "merry Elf-mas", and "Elf was Here" arrow are stamps from the collection.  You'll definitely be seeing more cards and layouts using this collection in the coming days!  Love it!

The layout of my card was inspired by a cool new challenge blog I happened across called, "Seize the Sketch".   To play along, you just need to enter your card based on their sketch by August 18th at 9am and comment on three other participant cards.  I think that is such a cool idea.  Who doesn't like a little bloggy love?  I am also entering my card in the Cute Card challenge over at Winter Wonderland Challenge blog.  This elf definitely qualifies as cute :)

Hope the sun is shining in your part of the world!

The Snowflake

Happy Birthday Crafter's Companion U.S.A.!  Crafter's Companion U.S.A. is celebrating it's 6th birthday this week!  They are offering up some BRAND NEW Stamp-It Australia Christmas stamps with purchase too.  Yippee!!!  I think The Snowflake stamp is absolutely drool worthy, so I  decided to make this oversized Christmas tag with it.

I began adding Worn Lipstick Distress Ink to my over sized tag in random areas.

Next, I added Tattered Rose Distress Ink, gently covering most of the white spaces.

For a little contrast, I added Wild Honey Distress Ink in a few place.  I made sure to ink around the edges as well.

To make the tag just a little bit brighter, I next applied Festive Berries Distress Ink around the Worn Lipstick Distress Ink and a few of the edges.  The wonderful thing about Distress Ink is that the colors blend well together.

For the top layer of my tag, I stamped The Snowflake image onto acetate using Staz-On Jet Black Ink.

I centered my acetate image in the center of my tag and applied a thin line of Collall Tacky-Glue along the bottom and top of my tag.  (Ribbon will eventually cover both these areas.)  Cut off all the excess acetate around the tag with scissors.

Next, I added three small black brads to the center of the smaller snowflakes.  This will also help keep the acetate attached to the tag.  I added a thin layer of glue to two ribbons and attached them to the bottom, being careful not to smear the glue when attaching.

Once the ribbon has been securely attached to your tag, you will pick out some more ribbons for the top of the tag.  To create the hole in the acetate at the top, simply use a hold punch.  I added three ribbons I had in my stash by folding them in half and pushing them through the front of the tag as shown below.

Once you have made your loop, pull all loose ends through the loop and pull tight.

Once your tag is complete, you can use it to decorate a package, add it to a scrapbook layout, or use it on a holiday card.  You could also create a loop around the top, instead of loose ribbons and give it away as an ornament.  In person, the acetate on the tag captures light beautiful and is quiet shiny.  It's a little tougher showing that in a photo, however.   You can see the shine a little better in the picture below.  (Keep in mind the reflection of the light in this picture is hiding all the beautiful colors you would normally see.)

I hope you enjoyed my not-so-little tag tutorial.  Thanks so much for stopping by today :)  Hope you have a wonderful day!

The Elves are watching you

I have been on a Christmas kick lately!  At the rate I'm going, I'll be done with my cards months before Christmas :)  Whoo Hoo! Today card was inspired from a cool card sketch challenge over at Christmas Challenges {with sketches].

I used jillibean soup's fabulous Christmas Cheer Chowder collection to create my card.  I colored the elf stamps using Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. (Girl Elf: CR7, CR9, True Black, CG1 and CG2, FS1, FS3
Boy Elf: BT3, BT4, DG2, DG4, True Black, FS1, FS3).   I also added some Diamond Stickles to the darling little elves' hats.  The reindeer, stars, and North Pole sign are die cuts.

Hope your week is off to a great start :)

Clean and Simple circles

Good morning crafty friends.  I can't believe another week has already come and gone again.  We've got about two weeks left of summer break and are cramming in as many things on our bucket list as we can.  Lara is very excited and a little nervous to start Kindergarten.  She is very social though, so I think she is going to do great right off the bat.  Nick is dreading 5th grade and the major loss of gaming time.  Currently he is obsessed with Clash of Clans and Minecraft.  I've been trying to offset his brain cell losses this summer with worksheets and a reading class at a local college ;)

Anyway, I finally had a little time yesterday to create a clean and Simple card using some of my Crafter's Companion stamps.  I saw a gorgeous sketch over at Clean and Simple Stamping and just had to give it a try.

My floral circles were from Stamp-It Australia Oriental Delights and Kanji Collection Stamp Set 3.  The gorgeous colors are the new Memento colors Love LetterDandelion, and Lilac Posies.  The sentiment from Stamp-It Australia Sentiment Swirls was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  I used Collalls Tacky Glue to adhere my white card stock to the yellow card stock.  I love this glue because while it is wet and can be moved around for a few seconds, it also dried really quickly.  It has a small opening as well so you can't over do.  (Which I sometimes have a hard time with.)

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday morning :)

Inspirational Mini Album

Today I have a fun Inspiration Mini Album I made myself to share with you.  After getting pneumonia last month, I decided to join a gym in order to get my lungs in better shape.  Exercise has never been a favorite past-time of mine so I create created this album to help remind me to keep going and stay the course when I wavered.

I sprayed the front of the journal with all colors of ink sprays, as well as the butterflies.  The beige canvas cover and back was pre-made and came with the two rings to bind it.  For the inside pages, I trimmed patterned card stock to fit inside it.  As you can tell, I love bright, brilliant colors.  I chose the papers and stickers for the album from all different paper lines and just picked the ones I liked best, rather than trying to make it all coordinate.  The very first page you are looking at is actually acetate which you can better see in the next photo.

The beautiful sentiment "When you have a Dream, grab it and NEVER let go" and butterflies are from Stamp-It Australia Time to Dream, which I stamped on acetate that I cut to size with Jet Black StazOn Ink.   The brilliant blue banner was originally white, until I colored it with Bahama Blue Memento Luxe Ink (Coming soon to Crafter's Companion online store)!

While I was spraying the front and back of my journal cover with color ink sprays, I noticed that my paper towels were turning gorgeous shades of color too.  So I decided to somehow incorporate them into my journal.  I needed them a little stronger though.  So I sprayed the colored paper towels with Iridescent Spray and Sparkle Varnish.  This not only added various colors of sparkles, but it also seals in the inks and added a stronger finish to the paper towels.

Here's a close up.

And a few more examples of the sprayed paper towel.

On this page, I also added a couple of sentiments from Stamp-It Australia Time to Dream in Morocco Memento Luxe Ink.  The quote says, "Everything you can imagine is real. Pablo Picasso".

For quite a few of my inspirational pages, I used sentiments and images from Crafter's Companion's Kanji Collection Sets 1, 2, and 4.  This feminine image and strength sentiment (Sheena Douglass Divine Inspiration) was stamped with Morocco Memento Luxe Ink on vellum paper.  Because this ink is very wet, I made sure to dry it with a heat gun.

The Kanji stamps which feature words in both Kanji and English are perfect for little tags.  I used the words Strength, Don't Quit, Perseverance, and Patience in the mini album.

To create a different kind of page in the album, I stamped the very large Key Sentiments image below with Butter Cream Staz-On Opaque Ink.  The color really stands out on the brown paper underneath.

I also left a few of the pages bare, so I that I could add more stamps or quotes to the journal, along with my pictures or journaling.  This was one of my favorite mini albums to create because I used so many different types of paper, inks, and stamps.  Perfectly coordinated albums look fabulous too, but sometimes it's nice to just play around with different mediums.

Thanks for taking time to drop by.  Hope you have a great day!
