Playing with my paints

Today's journal page includes lots and lots of different sparkling paints.  I just dove in and played around with the different paints, just having fun trying out the various textures.  The background was created with Twinkling H20 watercolor paints, with the brighter red on the flowers were from Art Anthology Dimensional Gel Paint.  The beautifully cracked gold sparkling wings were from multiple layers of Viva Gold Crackle paint applied to chipboard.  The paint made the wings curve slightly up as well.  Finally, the green leaves around the top of the page were created by applying Silks acrylic paint directly to a rubber stamp and then stamping the leave images on the page.  The gold on the red flowers was also Silks acrylic paint that I applied with my finger :)

The lovely person die cut is from a Spellbinders die, and I added a bit of lace and black ribbon to dress her up a bit.  I used Memento ink to stamp the sentiment.  I'm not sure who makes the two stamps I used as they are buried somewhere on my desk right now and I just can't seem to motivate myself to clean it.

I am entering my journal page in the following challenges:

Watercolor journal page

Happy friday friends!  It's been a rough week here with everyone in the family sick.  I'm looking forward to sleeping in a little bit!  Not too much crafting going on this week, but I did finish this journal page using Twinkling H2Os. You can really see how the page sparkles with this paint in the lower left corner where the sun hit it just right.  I used three or four blues and purples.  I just love how the colors blend so well.

Can you see the sparkling spiderweb on the page?  I got the idea from a class in the 21 Secrets journaling classes that my bff bought me for my bday :)  I created it by lightly drawing the web in pencil, then white pen, and finally Stickles glitter glue.   Here's a close up so you can see it a bit better.  It's much more glittery in person.

The quote by Oscar Wilde, along with the colorful lettering, was inspired by Soul Scrappers April Art Journaling challenge.  I just love this quote.  It makes me think in terms of perspective, time and renewal.  The large clock along the bottom was a Tim Holtz mask, as is the smaller in the upper left corner.  (Thanks Lisa!)

I have been just crazy this weekend with very little time for crafting so today I have a quick card to share with you that I made for daughter.  All the words on the front of the card are one big rub-on.  So quick and easy :) The paper is from Prima.

Sneak Peak of the Fairie Poppets Collection

The Weekend is here again and it's time to get crafty!  Today I have sneak peak for you featuring a stamp from the brand new Faerie Poppets collection by Christine Haworth.

I colored this sweet little faerie using Spectrum Noir alcohol markers GB2, GB4, BG6, LV2, LV3, LY2, LY3, CT1, CT2, CT4, CG2, CG3, BT2, FS2, FS3.  For a little sparkle, I added Yellow Stickles to her wings, and a bit of Icicle Stickles to the purple flowers.  The sentiment on the card is "May your day be filled with golden moments."  Such a sweet saying :)  The background of my card was created by adding a large piece of sparkly mesh to my purple paper.  You can find more sneak peaks of this beautiful collections over at Crafter's Companion's Facebook page.

Today I have a layout using DCWV's Collage Art stack.  It has a fabulous mixed media look with none of the mess or bulk.  The picture is Nick and Lara with two of their cousins playing dress up.  It is one of my favorite pictures.

The layout is based on DCWV's April sketch challenge.  Everything except the letters for my title are from the College Art stack.  The silhouettes of the children were cut from A Child's Year Cricut cartridge and the large blue scalloped flowers were cut from the Storybook Cricut cartridge.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Crafter's Companion April Flowers challenge

Hello Crafters.  Hope you are enjoying your weekend.  We all have a cold in my house so we are having a relaxing day at home.  So today I have a card to share with you for the April Flowers Crafter's Companion challenge.

I created my card by first heat embossing my Stamp-It Australia Dreamy Daisies flowers with black embossing powder on Premium White Cardstock.  Next I brushed watercolor paints across my stamp, as well as another piece of white card stock for the background.  The watercolors will blend beautifully and the embossed image will resist the watercolors.  When the paper was mostly dried, I put it between to heavy books so that the paper would dry flat.  For the "Happy Birthday" sentiment (also from Dreamy Daisies stamp set), I embossed the image after coloring the paper, to see which technique I liked better - embossing before or after watercolors.  I think painting after embossing stands out a little better.

To add texture,  I added a this strip of burlap across the card.  To pull it all together, I also added a burlap image on the background with Sheena Douglass Ageing Beautifully stamp set.

You still have two week to enter Crafter's Companion's April Flower challenge.  You can interpret the challenge however you wish,  just make sure you use a Crafter's Companion product to be eligible to win an online gift certificate to their store.

I am entering my card in the following challenges:

Pile it Up - Embossing
Little Scrap Pieces - May flowers
Dream Valley challenge - Birthday
Ruby's Rainbow - Birthday
Addicted to Stamps - Birthday

Have a wonderful week!

Our Birthdays are Feathers...

Feathers are hot right now, so I thought I'd make a couple birthday cards using the newest Sheena Douglass' stamp set, Falling Feathers.   This stamp set has eight different sized feathers, as well as the lovely sentiment, "Our Birthdays are Feathers in the Broad Wing of Time".

For both the cards, I used pigment ink when stamping the images.  I first applied the lightest shade (grey) to the entire stamp.  Then I added a turquoise shade the upper third of the feather.  Finally, I added a darker shade of green to the very top of my feather.

For the second card I made, I did the same thing with the feathers, but also added a bit of Diamond Stickles Glitter Glue for a bit of sparkle.  I also stamped the saying with both the turquoise and green colors for a two-toned look.

I am entering my birthday cards in the following challenges:

Papercraft Star - Use a Stamp
Simon Says Stamp - Fly
Ruby's Rainbow - Happy Birthday
Stamp with Fun - Birthday
The Crafty Bloggers Network - Anything goes

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope the rest of your week is wonderful :)

Follow Your Heart Mixed Media Journal

Hello fellow crafters.  Today I have a mixed media journal cover to share with you.  I worked on this on and off for quite a few days.  I would paint and mist and glitter and then wait for it to dry, until I finally got the colors I was looking for.   It was fun to see how it finally shaped up.

To get the glittery effect of this cloth bound journal cover from Prima, I misted it several times with Glimmer Mist.  I've been buying up lots of different mists lately, and shopping always inspires a guilty feeling that I should use up old supplies before using new ones.   So I pulled out my older glimmer mists and just kept spraying the cover until I got the colors I wanted.  Then I brushed a couple of Chandelier Glitter Glam which really amped up the sparkle factor.

The brilliantly girly paper, including the high heel were cut from Websters Pages, though the vellum roses in the left corner were cut out from a very old Anna Griffith paper.  I added some Glimmer glam to the high heal and girls' skirts as well.  The wooden ruler to the right of the high heel is from Prima, which I also sprayed a couple of time with Glimmer Mist.

The fun pink mesh sticking out from under the large button is from Websters Pages.  The button is so old I have no idea where I got it from.  But I love the sparkly iridescent colors in it.

The die cut heart around vintage image in the upper right corner was cut from my Cricut using the Birthday Bash cartridge.  I used Glimmer Mist and Glimmer Glam on it as well.

Finally, the beautiful Follow your Heart sentiment with hearts is from the Only Words-From the Heart stamp set.

I am entering my journal in the following challenges:

Creative Craft Challenge 2 - Alter It
Party Time Tuesday - Anything but a card

Happy Birthday Sheena Douglass!

Today is Sheena Douglass' birthday, so a few of us over at Crafter's Companion are using some of our favorite stamps designed by Sheena to celebrate her style.  I am slightly obsessed with Sheena's beautiful stamps and I have a HUGE collection of them.  HUGE.  But for today's card, I narrowed down my favorites (for this month anyway) to just three.

The gorgeous floral images are from Sheena's Flower Power and Always Floral Stamp sets.  Aren't the leaf images stunning? To create the background I sprinted water onto watercolor paper and then brushed the paper with kiwi and sweet alfalfa Twinkling H2O's.   Once it dried, I stamped the large branches of leaves with Jet Black Staz-On Ink.  The tiny flowers were stamped with purple pigment ink.

To create the larger flowers I spritzed another piece of watercolor paper with water and then brushed the paper with black cherry and plum crazy twinkling H2Os.   These watercolors contain mica and have a nice shimmer to them.   You can see it a little bit in this close up.

Next, I stamped out my flower images several times with Jet Black Staz-On ink and cut them them out.  The gold in the middle of the flower was created with clear glue and liquid gold foil.  The sentiment was stamped with Sheena's Only Words- Through the Rain stamp set.  This stamp set has so many absolutely gorgeous sayings.

Thanks for stopping by today.  You can see more of Sheena's amazing stamps over at Crafter's Companion USA, as well as Sheena's own blog.

Happy Birthday Sheena!!!

Have a fabulous weekend friends :)

Birthday Girl

Today's scrapbook layout is one of Lara's 4th birthday.   One of the many jobs she wants to do when she grows up is a chef.  So when she got an official chef hat and apron she immediately wanted to put it on.    Having a chef in the family sounds pretty good to me :)

The paper and stickers are from Amy Tangerine's Sketchbook, as is the rosette I made with it in the corner.  The flowers, stems, lace, bling and washi tape are from Prima.   I am entering my layout in the Simon Says Stamp Birthday challenge.

Have a great day!

Laugh out Loud

Good morning crafters!  It is so quiet in my house this a.m., the kids finally went back to school.  You should have heard my son groaning about it this morning!  It's so nice that Lara loves school.  Hopefully that lasts for a few more years.

Today I have a card for you using Crafter's Companion's Swalk Happy Holidays stamp set as my main image.    It's been years since we've skated at the local ice rink... I think we'll go sometime this Summer when it gets really hot :)

I colored the image with Spectrum Noir and inked around the scalloped paper.

I also added a bit of lace under it for a little texture.

To make my pearls match my colored image, I added Spectrum Noir alcohol ink refills to them.

Here's a before and after picture that shows the color change a bit better.

Using refills means you won't have to buy all different color pearls if you don't want to.  Just add whatever refill color you like to them and your project will all match perfectly to your colored stamp.  I also added a few flowers and a sentiment sticker from my stash to complete my card.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Between Spring Break with the kids, Easter, and my birthday yesterday (April Fool's baby), we have been going nonstop.  We managed a trip to Vegas to see friends, saw all the grandparents, hosted Easter, saw the Croods, Oz the Great and Powerful, and The Host (awful don't see it)  and had a few play dates.   It was a fun week and a half :)

I am entering my card in the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp - Anything goes
Papertake Weekly - Anything goes
Crafty Blogger's Network - Anything goes

Hope you are enjoying your day!
