Graphic 45 Advent Calendar

Hey gals,

I've been crafting like a maniac to get my Graphic 45 Advent Calendar finished.  The canvas measures 24 inches x 24 inchs!  All of the paper I used was from their Christmas Past line.

The large piece of canvas was bought at QVC about two years ago.  I'm so glad I waited to use it.  I chalked up the canvas with reds, yellows, and browns.  Then I painted it with Pearl Red Luminarte spray which is like Glimmer mist.  Then I added 4 large Graphic papers next to each other in the center.  I believe they are 11 inches each.  Then I sprayed all the papers and canvas with Gold Glimmer Mist.

To make the background, I fussy cut 3 or 4 papers and applied all over the canvas.  I also used a page of their large diecuts.

The boxes were made out of Graphic 45's paper as well.  I found a great site for oragami boxes at http://www.craftideas.info/html/small_origami_boxes.html,  It was very easy to make them though time consuming.  I used Modge Podge where the pieces met to make sure they would stay in place.

I also adhered some small pictures that were cut out on the boxes and then attached the numbers.  The numbers themselves were also made with Graphic 45 paper too.  I cut them all with my Expression.

Finally to finish it off I adheared two bows at the top, some gold beads around the edges, and a few flowers that I bought at Michaels that I sprayed with Santa Baby Glimmer Mist.

I am going to fill the boxes up with both candy and little notes of something we'll do that day, like make Christmas cookies, make Christmas ornaments, or visit Santa.  That sort of thing.

Here are the challenges I am entering my advent calendar in.

Tuesday Throwdown challenge - Embellish it
Woodware USA Clear Stamps challenge - Anything goes
CES Challenges - Vintage Christmas
Tuesday Taggers challenge blog - Jolly Old St. Nick

Thanks for looking :)

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  Getting back to regular life after 4 days of just hanging around with my hubby was tough!  My MIL took the kids and Chris and I had the most relaxing weekend at home.  It also didn't help that my minivan wouldn't start this morning.  Hopefully it's nothing major.  I've had it for 9 years, and I'd like to get a few more out of it.  We'll see what happens.  Luckily, Chris had the carpool car this week, so I was able to use his to take the kids to school and make my appointment to get my eyes check.  I would have hated to have to walk the kids to and from school today.  It's cold and windy.  I know what a whiner, it could be worse.  At least it doesn't snow here.

Aright, here's today's page.  I used this cute and fast sketch by Scrap Our Stash to get a couple of my Halloween pictures scraped. With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, I knew I needed to do these quickly. The haunted house, fence, and pumpkins are all from Reminisce. The paper is from Creative Imaginations and the letters are from Fancy Pants.

Here is the original sketch:

By the way, Scrap Our Stash is taking applications for their design team.  Karen is going to choose 4 new designers.  If you are looking for a great team to be a part of, head on over there.

Have a great evening!

Happy Monday!  Only a few more days until Thanksgiving :)))  Lara had a Thanksgiving feast at school today.  When I asked her what she was thankful for, her response was, "Big seeds".  Hmmm, not sure what she meant but she was very clear about it!

I had fun playing around with my Expression this morning.  I decided to make a tongue in cheek Thanksgiving card.

I used Tim Holtz's new Seasonal paper pack for the paper, and used the technique Double Distress on the grungeboard under the "Thanks".  I cut the cricut images from the Paper Doll Dress-up.

I am entering my card in the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp and Show - Show your Distress Inks
Studio L3 - Double Distress
The Stamp Man Challenges - Any Tim Holtz product
Fantabulous Cricut - Thankful for
Crafty Creations Challenges - beautiful Insides

I also want to show you Sassy 'Lil Sketches newest sketch.  I love all the smaller squares around the page.  Be a great way to use up some scraps of pattern paper!

Santa's house

I am thrilled to show you what I've been working on the past few days.  It's Santa's House!!!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas decorations so when I saw this chipboard house I immediately thought of making Santa's house.

See Santa waving?

I started with a precut house from Doodlebug.

First, I followed the directions to glue the house together.  It called for a hot glue gun for assembly, but since I did not have one, I used Beacon's 3-in-1.  It worked fabulously.   I then covered the house with BoBunny's Noel line.  I love the traditional colors and images in it.  I wanted to add a lot of glitter to the house, so before covering the roof with paper, I spray the paper with 3M Spray Mount (which I got at Michael's) and then sprinkled ultra fine red gitter all over it.  I highly recommend this spray.  It really held all the glitter beautifully.  There were absolutely no splotchiness or spots without glitter.  For the roof decoration, I took a piece of yellow ribbon, sprayed it with the 3M adhesive, and covered it in ultra fine gold glitter.  I used red and green stickles to glitter up the window frames, door, Santa's hat and mitten, and the letters JOY in the banner.

The Reindeer, Santa and Joy banner were cut from the Christmas Cheer Cricut cartridge.  The reindeer is also a movable piece.  To do this I used a "Wobble".  (http://www.facebook.com/actionwobbles) Wobbles are two adhesive pieces which are attached together with a small spring.  I cut the wobble down to the size I wanted so it would not show.

This was the first house I have ever decorated and I had so much fun with it!  I highly recommend finding a cool house you like and decorating it with your favorite Christmas paper and colors.  It will make a wonderful keepsake for years to come.  You could even do one a year until you have a little village :)  Why not buy some Halloween webs when Halloween is over and it is cheap.  It looks great as snow.

I am entering Santa's house in the following challenges:

My blog has Attitude! Blog Award

I got the coolest blog award!  Cindy at Cindy's Creations AND Barb over at Crafty Girl gave me this :

I absolutely love this award!!!  Thank you so much Barb and Cindy.  You two rock!  And you definitely have attitude.  To accept this award I need to say three things about me that makes me different from everyone else and I need to pass it on to five friends.  After that I can display the award and I get a gift certificate from Digis with attitude!  I'm super jazzed about that.  I love funny, sarcastic, full of attitude sayings and images.

Okay let's see... Three things that make me different are

1.    I love chocolate ice cream loaded with melted marshmellow sauce.  The more the better! It totally disgusts Chris, lol.
2.     I'd rather email than talk on the phone.  It's quicker and I hate chatting on the phone.
3.     I blow lots of bubbles when I chew gum :)

I wish I could give this award to all of you, my awesome blogging friends.  We are friends because we have the same bad attitude.  Unfortunately I can only give it to five bloggers :(  I tried to pick people who haven't received this award and who I thought would use the free digis.   The five I chose were:

Enjoy the award girls!  To find out how to get your digis go here..  Be sure to stop by tomorrow, I have an awesome home decor project that I've been working on for the last three or four days.  It's also being posted on Scrap Our Stash as the Sunday Show and Tell.  If you have something you would love to share, feel from to email Scrap our Stash and they just might feature you!  It does not need to be new.

2 page layout and a cool glimmer mist idea

I've just about got everything put away from CKC and my home all cleaned up.  Yay!   One of the layouts I made there was this 2 page spread by Creating Keepsakes.  I've noticed that their sketches tend to be simplistic.  I loved the reminder to use your old brads on flowers of your pattern paper.  I've also used the last of Lara's birthday pictures on it.

So here's a really cool idea we got from Tattered Angels.  Lay down some lace on a piece of paper and then spray it with glimmer mist.

How cool is that?!  I need to get a huge piece of lace so I can do it to an entire 12x12 page.  Then you can wash the lace and reuse it.  That is maybe my favorite tip in the class.

This morning Nicholas was running a little behind as I was urging him to get his sweatshirt and shoes on.  His reply was, "You can't hurry a guy along, mom."   I had to laugh at that one.  'Course I did it all the same :)

See ya later,

CKU and winner of blog hop candy

I'm baaaack...  CKU was so much fun!  I flew up with my girlfriend Stacy (via Las Vegas) and we had such a blast.  Nonstop chatting, shopping, classes and crops.  What's not to love?  We took CKU by storm and took SEVEN classes and croped both night.  The remaining time we shopped and shopped!  We skipped lunch both days - too busy to eat!  Here's a couple of pictures of the event.

My new glimmer mists
Cool prize I won at the crop

Onc of our classes was taught by go-to-gal, Teri Anderson.  She is the nicest person you've ever met!  And so funny.  She was the best teacher by far there.  My favorite class though was easily Glimmer Mist 101.  We learned so many techniques we filled up a binder!

I have yet to put all my stuff away.  Anyone want to help?

I haven't forgotten the winner for my blog hop post on Friday.  The random number generator has spoken - Kelly Massman!  Email me your address and I will get your prize out to you.

Here it is.  Notice the small fingers in the picture?  Lara thought the metal accents were pretty cool.

Have a great day everyone.  Hope to get my room in order and some pictures up of some of my projects soon.

It's the 14th, time for a Sassy card sketch

This week's card sketch is so cute.  I had the honor of working with a digi from one of our sponsors this month, Sassy Studio Designs.

Here's the sketch:

Here's how my card turned out.  Not what I had in mind but I'm very happy with it.  I can count on one hand how many digital images I have colored.  I managed to do this one on my first try!  Whoo Hooo!  The pictures a little dark because of the weather.

This sassy girl is part of their Sassy Holiday Collection.  It is called Hanging the Wreath.  Isn't she the cutest?  Of course, being a brunette I had to make her hair brown ;)

I'm on an airplane on way home from Seattle right about now.  I'll be back on Tuesday.

Do the Hippity Hop blog hop!

Today's the day gals and guys.  Time to do the Hippity Hop blog hop.  This hop has a recipe challenge and has SIX challenge blogs participating in it.  Each blog will have a certain requirement to add to this sketch so make sure you hop all the way through the challenge blogs before you get started.  The hop starts now and will end at 9pm on the 14th. There are going to be lots of prizes so you will want to do this.

Sassy 'Lil Sketches is starting out the fun with this sketch:

I know, it's totally gorgeous right?  I loved playing with this sketch.  Especially the banner at the top.

Here's my take on it:

I am going to have a blog candy for one lucky follower so be sure leave a comment to win.  NO more than one comment per person please.   I haven't figured out what it will be yet.  I am at a CKC in Seattle right now so I will be posting the candy and the winner on Tuesday.  Leaving my kids and husband at home means some serious damage control when I first get back.

Alright off you go to Sassy 'Lil Sketches.  Can't wait to see what everyone does with the challenges :)

Don't forget about the Hippity Hop Blog Hop starting on the 12th.  The main hop starts at Sassy 'Lil Sketches.  Be sure to swing by here though too.  I have scheduled an autopost on that day and there will be a giveaway.

Have a great weekend all,

Sailor Girl

2 posts in one day?! What's the world coming too?  Took the kids to the park today.  I am trying to teach Nicholas how to ride a bike.  This is not as easy as it sounds.  He is extremely gun shy about anything new and stubborn to boot.  But at 8 years old, I think he is ready.  He actually did pretty well and I was able to let go for a couple seconds a few different times.  Lara had a blast playing with her little pink scooter.

Okay on to the layout.  I used a Sketches in Thyme sketch for my layout.  The flourishes are covered in Tim Holtz's silver alcohol ink and then grunged up for the Studio L3 challenge.  The flowers are from prima and the paper is BG.

The title was made with silver stickers that are really quite bright but they got washed out in the sun.  I retook the picture in the shade so you could see them.

Here are the challenges I am enter my layout in:

Studio L3 - industrial grunge

Minnie Mouse layout and the new Sassy Sketch

It's the 7th so that mean a new sketch and new sponsors for this month at Sassy 'Lil Sketches.  And this month we have some great sponsors and prizes!  This month's sponsors are

and our digital sponsor is

Fabulous, right?!  If you want to go check them out, you can click on their buttons on the top left of my blog.

Here's the newest sketch:

Here's what I came up with:

All the Minnie mouse images were cut from my Mickey and Friends cricut cartridge.  I added polka dots to Minnie's dress with a toothpick and white paint.

Hope you'll all come over and play with us :)
