Practical Scrappers Design Team Call and WOYWW

Practical Scrappers has a Design Team call open right now.  Having been a DT member for them, I can tell you it is really fun to be a part of such a talented group of women.  They took me on when I had no experience with design teams, so don't let that stop you from applying!  I decided not to reapply (you didn't think I could keep up with three Design Teams did you?!), but I encourage you all to give it a go if you would like the experience and fun of being on a Design Team.  You can check out how to apply at

As an aside, I have caught a mean cold and am not feeling well, so no layouts from me today.  I thought I'd participate in the WOYWW for the first time instead.  If you are not familiar with that term, It stands for What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday?  A huge group of people post what's on their desks and link it to  I follow a few gals that do this, and it's fun to see that side to their crafting.  So here's mine.

Here's the left side.  I have my TH book thrown on top of paper, on top of grunge board.  There are some acrylic blocks with stamps on them I need to put away.  You can see a a whole bunch of My little Shoebox paper, abcs, and overlays I won in their blog hop.

Here's the right side.  Some scraps from a layout a couple of days ago and some goodies I got from entering Gabrielle's blog candy.  (Love them, thanks girl!)  There's my pictures I need to scrap.  Quite a filing system I have, hmm?  Some water I really should move.

And where everything lands when I run out of room, but don't want to stop scrapbooking to clean it up...The floor.  There's a page I need to journal on, a ton of scraps that are driving me insane, etc.  Some of us girls were talking about our scrapbooking spaces on Pages in Time on my group (Scrapbooking Spaces).  I said what I slob I was and a friend said no, it's "creatively chaotic".  I think if she saw this post, she'd change her mind.

Enjoy today!

The Online Scrapper

Hey gals,

I used a new sketch site today, sketches in Thyme.  You can find them at  Their sketch this week was too cute to pass up.  The major focus of my layout though was on Studio L3:  Compendium of Curiosities' Alcohol Ink monoprint challenge.   You can check out their new Tim Holtz challenge at  I love this technique!  I thought my paper (The large scalloped circle) turned out pretty neat.  You can also see what a techno nut I've turned into.  I blame it on my husband.

Enjoy your afternoon :)

This week's challenge at Practical Scrappers is decorative scissors and border punches

For this layout I used my nephew Lincoln as my focus.  Wow, how he has grown!  I used a border punch and put some copper pearls in the bottom one.  One the tag, I used some of my new goodies from Stacy and added some Tim Holtz metal embellies, stamp,  and inks.  The tag is my favorite part of the layout by far.  A lot of the paper was from my Pages in Time Kit.

Today is just a gorgeous California day.  I took Lara to JCPenny's to get her portrait done.  She's such an awesome picture taker.  She had no problem changing outfits for me and changing her hair style.  Having a girl is the coolest!  Nick went to Karate class, so he didn't feel left out.  I have so many of him, I wanted to do one with just Lara.  I can't pick them out till the 7th though!  They came out sooooooo cute, I WANT THEM NOW!  I put her in a pretty lavender sundress and a pale green traditional Chinese dress.  Good thing I had a coupon with me.  I ordered a bunch!

Who Hoo! I'm a Sassy girl!

I am so excited and pleased to announced I made the design team for Sassy 'Lil Sketches!!!!!   There's going to be a blog hop happening too :))  Stayed tune for more details to follow, lol.   I also wanted to share this layout with you.  I went crazy with the Prima.  The picture at the bottom is in China when we had all the girls sit together at the the White Swan in Guangzhou.  The top three pictures are of the girls one year later sitting together on another red couch.  What a huge difference one year makes!

Teacher and Me class

Here's my layout for the Pages in Time Sketch.  As soon as I put Lara down for a nap, I was on it.  I used soooo many flowers for this.  It was too much picking them out.  This is my favorite kind of layout to make.  Bright colors and lots of flowers.  These pictures of Lara are a couple of my favorites.  She was so excited to go to her "Teacher & Me" class.  It's an hour and 1/2 long and she goes all by herself.  She felt like such a big girl.  She loves going to school like Nicholas.  She always felt left out when I dropped him off in the morning.  She's so independent :)

New Sketch at Practical Scrappers

It's Friday again!  This week just flew by for me.  I did the sketch for Practical Scrappers this week.  I decided it was well past time to do a layout about the love of my life.  I don't do to many of him.  He's not too fond of having his picture taken, a lot like me, so I don't get to many of them.  This one I got at the zoo.  The paper is an old Storytellers kit I bought years ago.  I added some metal and acrylic letters to it to add some dimension.  The black letters are stamps.

Here is this week's sketch at Practical Scrappers.  Be sure to add yours so you have a chance at winning the prize :)

Chat at ya later ;)

All I can say is wow

I have the best friend.  I met Stacy online when we found out we were traveling together to adopt our daughters in China.  We emailed each other frequently about what we should pack, how we felt, getting our children at home ready, etc.  When we finally met in China, we gave each other the biggest hug and were darn near inseparable throughout the two week trip.  It's been a year and a half since then and hardly a day goes by with an email (or twelve) between us.  I also try to get out to Las Vegas a few times a year to visit.  Sometimes, you just meet people that you really connect with.  Though she doesn't like to gamble, which is a shame, lol.

Anyway, I opened the door today expected some pictures from Shutterfly and look what I got instead. She sent me this sweet card.  I just love what she stamped on it!  And for the record Stacy, I don't know what I'd do without you in my life!

And it accompanied all this!!!

I don't know what I did to deserve all these fantastic goodies, but I do know that I'm the lucky one for having her in my life.  Thank you so much.  It brought tears to my eyes.

Playing with Tim Holtz's alcohol inks and acrylic album

Hey gals,

I decided to see what Tim Holtz's alcohol inks looked like on an Acrylic album.  I tried two different methods.  The first few times I used applied drops of various colors on the blending tool and then applied some of the alcohol blending solution.  I then "stamped" it all over the acrylic album.  I did this several times.  Note:  It spreads out on it's own, don't overstep.  I did this and did not like the effect.  I also learn not to put the alcohol blending solution directly on the acrylic.  It immediately spreads all the ink away, leaving a clear circle.  You'll see these.

The second way I tried it was to apply it with a brayer.  It turned out way to dark for my taste, not to mention my brayer is now bright purple.  For fun, I "stamped" some purple ink to a white flower.  It turned into a deep rich purple flower that I think is really pretty.  Anyway, here's my experiment for the day.

Enjoy your afternoon,

Looking Back

I saw the newest sketch over at Sassy Lil' Sketches and knew just what picture I'd use. When my brother Eric was much younger (He's 16 now!) I took him and Nicholas to JCPenny's to get their pictures taken.   I had them both were sports clothing.

Aren't they darling?!  Not that Eric's 16 and has a driver's license, I rarely see him!  Oh, it horrible when whey they grow up!  I also thought I'd share a couple of blog hops with you I came across.  One is over at  And the other is at  If you go to Scrap it forward, can you let Jenn know I sent you?  (Just 'cause, I don't get anything from it :))

Enjoy this beautiful day,

Time for a new Practical Scrapper Challenge.  This week challenge is use flowers.  Doesn't get any better than that!  This week's winner will win their choice of 3 digs from our June sponsor Squigglefly.  I decided to use some flower rhinestones that I have had for ages.  I used a sketch from The Scrappiest.

We had a wonderful weekend going to a birthday party at a park and celebrating Father's Day.  Lara was so cute when I put her down for a nap today.  She looked at me and said, "Thanks for swimming momma".  So cute!  Hope everyone had a good weekend.

It's almost the weekend and I have 2 gorgeous sketches for you (and a layout)

Hey everyone,

Time to do the Friday dance!  Every one all geared up for Father's Day.  The First one is for Practical Scrappers.  Our Design Team made awesome layouts from this, so if you need ideas head over to the Practical Scrappers Blog.  Remember, there will be a winner chosen at the end of the month from all the sketch entries throughout June.

The Second sketch is from Pages in Time.  There weekly sketches have winners chosen weekly, so if you missed last week, you get to start all over with this one :)  To get to the sketch Thursday group, you can click on the blink on the right.  Our fabulous leader also posts all the sketches on her blog, to showcase your work all week long.

Now for my sketch.  I started buying the kit of the month over at Pages in Time and it's so gorgeous.  Tons of Prima :))  So since I got my kit yesterday, I decided to use Pages in Time sketch of the week for my first layout with it.  With the exception of the stamps I used in the bottom right corner, It's all from their kit.

Enjoy your friday night :)

Wild Things

Boy, I didn't think it'd be that much harder to squeeze in a page every day or two once Summer started.  Wrong!  Keeping two kids busy is definitely cutting into my scrapbooking time.  There's so much more to do around the house these days too.  Mess, mess, mess.  Okay, that's enough complaining.  After all, Summer is my favorite season.  It was another hot gorgeous day and we soaked it up.  There was a cool breeze with it, so you could be outside all day long.  Got my new charger for my laptop.  Had no idea they cost $90.00.  Soon as I found out, I put a ban on chewing gum for the immediate future.  Seemed fair to me.  Not so much to Nicholas.

Speaking of Nicholas, I embarrassed him pretty good today.  I had the nerve to tell him, "I love you", out in public!  What was I thinking?!  Gasp!  He said, "Moooommm" (think whiny voice), you're embarrassing me."  Sniff, sniff.  My son's growing up and I do not like it one little bit.  Alright, where's the sketch already?  Today's sketch is from Sketch Inspiration.

You gals have a nice night :)

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Hey groovy gals,

I manages a quick layout today for Sassy 'lil Sketches.  When I saw it, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it.  Here's their sketch:

Here's my take on it.

Not too much to say here.  And I really can't anyway.  Nick decided to chew on the end of my laptop charger.  The side that goes in the computer.  With gum in his mouth.  My darling husband said he will pick me up a new one tomorrow.  Yay!!

You're a Star

Hey gals,

I did something new today.  It's called Water stamping.  It is a stamping technique in Tim Holtz's new book.  I bought the book a couple of weeks ago and a few days ago I found this website  Linda at Studio L3 is gong to post a challenge from his book until she has gone through the entire book.  I love this idea and jumped on it.  Here's my card.

The water stamping technique is the pale bleached out stars in the background, on the right side.  I also used a fabulous sketch from Sassy Lil' Sketches.  (  So cute!  Summer's in full swing here.  Lara went to her "Teacher and Me" class, Nick had a swimming lesson, and we hit the park.  The weather is nice and hot.  Love summertime with my children :)

Loose glitter and flocking

It's Monday and the new Practical Scrapper's challenge this week is loose glitter and flocking.  I decided to go with loose glitter this time.  I cut the waves with my cricut, inked the edges with chalk, and then applies glitter to the edges.

Also, it time to announce the winner of my blog candy.  I can't tell you how many people sent cards that didn't put their names into Mr. Linky.  You are all so generous with your time.  Thank you EVERYONE for sending a card to Lennon.  He has been receiving them and has been loving the attention.

And the winner is #7!  Angela, send me an email with your info so I can get your candy out to you :)

Have a good one!

2 sketch challenges and a layout

Hey girls,

It's Friday night and I got to start dinner so this will be a quick post.  I took Lara to get immunizations today, so it's been a busy rough day :(  She's not a happy camper.

First, Practical Scrappers has their new Friday Sketch out today.  Don't forget they have started giving away a prize every month just for the sketch challenges, so get those entries in.

The Second sketch is the weekly sketch from Pages in Time.  Enter it to win a RAK.  Remember to post it into the PIT Thursday group and also in the Gallery.  There is a button with a direct link to the Thurdays Sketch Group on my sidebar.

Finally, my very first instructions as a DT member of Pages in Time was to make a layout or card with the following picture.  I decided to use this week's sketch at Pages in Time.  It fit perfectly.

I wanted to thank everyone for all the congrats and really sweet, sweet comments I've gotten in the last couple days.  I think it is so awesome to have met such a great group of wonderful women who I can share my (and your) scrapbooking successes and stories.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Blog Candy and a way to make a sweet boy smile

Hey girls,

I'm doing something a little different today and knowing how sweet you all are, I think you'll dig it.  I came across a picture of this sweet picture of Lennon earlier this week.

Lennon, who's almost 4 years old has been battling cancer since he was 2 years old.

Lennon's mom Amanda said, "wherever the action is, that's where 3-year-old Lennon will be. Running around outside, playing video games and pretending to be his favorite super hero. He's always laughing, running around giving the nurses a hard time you would never know he was sick." But Lennon is a sick little boy.

Lennon now has multiple tumors on his brain and spine. He will have to begin the fight all over again. Now Lennon's single mother said her only son has a 20-percent chance of survival but they're not giving up.

Amanda said they are taking each day in stride, and even though Lennon's bright-orange hair is gone, his spunk that matches it is still here!! "Lennon's a fighter, so am I. We'll beat it," according to Hunt.

I decided to put up some blog candy as a little incentive to make a card for Lennon.  Something fun, funny, upbeat, or just cute would be great.  His nana over at, says he loves getting cards and has offered to have the cards sent to her since Lennon will be getting Chemo next week.  She wants to make sure he gets them!  I know most people would make a card out of the goodness of their heart, but why not add a little RAK for your RAK?

Please make a little guy smile and send Lennon a card to:

Lennon Hunt
c/0 Pages in Time
5221 South 48 St
Lincoln NE 68516

If you'd like to enter my blog candy, please blog about this post so others might be inspired to make a card along with a picture of it and add your link to Mr. Linky below.  You can enter as much as you want, but please mail them out a week at a time so he can get cards for a little while :)  This is a great way for you to use up those scraps, win some candy, and do a really cool thing for a sweet boy.  For more information about Lennon and how you can help, you can go to

Oh yeah, here's the small Blog Candy I'm offering up.  I'll draw a name on Monday June 14th.

Hope everyone has a fabulous three day weekend. Hope I see you around :)

I love this website.  (  For so many reasons.  They have amazing layouts and great ideas to try.  Lots of big name designers are part of their team or guest host, so it's always amazing.  And I love how they are always showing off the latest and greatest products being released.  But what's really awesome, is how incredibly sweet and down to earth they are.  Oh yeah, and generous.  They have a ton of sponsors and their giveaways are sweet.  Look at what I won yesterday...

Can you believe it?!  It's an Stylus Photo R1900!  Seriously, I almost threw my laptop across the room jumping up and shrieking.  This has been my dream printer for 2-3 years now.  No more Shutterfly for this girl!  So I just had to pop in and share this fantastic news with you!

Sketch Friday at Practical Scrappers w/ a prize

Hey gals,

It's Sketch Friday at Practical Scrappers and there's a new fun twist.  They are offering up a prize from Lucky Girl Scrapbooking Kits for all sketch entries from today until June 30th!  Gotta love sketches w/ a prize (I do)!  Here's the prize that you can win.

Here's this week's sketch:

I was hoping to do some scrapbooking today but Lara and I had too much fun shopping at the mall and I've run out of time.  I bought her 4 new dresses and a new bathing suit.  All super girly.   Lara protested when I said enough's enough.  We were there for an hour and 1/2!  We got back in the car and she says, "Thanks for shopping Mama".  Seriously.  My girl so rocks.  I also managed to buy a tank top and a pair of shorts for myself.  Yippee!

I'm hoping to get lots of scrapbooking done this weekend.  I am going to visit my girlfriend Stacy in Las Vegas.  Hubby is staying home with the kids.  He is so sweet :))  We plan to hit her LSS and Michaels too.  I want to buy some Tim Holtz's products.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Today's layout sketch is from Pages in Time.  It is new today, and I jumped at it.  I had the perfect pictures for it.  Want to see the latest sketch right away? Check out where Karen posts the new one every Thursday.

That's it from me today.  Nick has a play date in five minutes, so ttyl :)

Superman card for Lennon

Hey gals,

Just a quick card today I made for Lennon.  Since he's big on Superheroes, I thought, "What's better than Superman?"  I added a Superman badge inside that he can stick on his shirt when he gets it.  I took the liberty of signing it as Superman.  I figure if my 7 year old still believes some fat guy can slide down our chimney and leaves toys at Christmas, then Lennon would probably buy that Superman was sending him a card. LOL.

Have a wonderful day!

Treasure Life's little Moments

Hey gals,

It's so much nicer to start the week off on a Tuesday, isn't it?  Love short weeks!  Today's sketch in from Pages in Time.  I pulled out all my flowers and bling (what else is new, right?) and got to work.  Okay, play.

Don't you just love the big green and blue flowers on it?  I got them from Shazi over at  She makes the most gorgeous wallhangings.  Not too much going on over here today.  Lots of laundry to catch up on and cleaning (yuck!)  Only 7 more days till Summer break!  Today's over so I'm not counting it.  I knew a lot of you gals have kids already out of school.  How's it going?  Any big summer plans or staycations?
