New Challenge at Practical Scrappers- Vellum, Transparencies. and Acryllic

Happy Memorial Day!  Thank you to all the men and women who have sacrificed so much to keep our country safe.  And a big hug to the families who bravely wait for them at home.

This week's challenge at Practical Scrappers is Vellum, Transparencies. and acrylic.  I love love love Vellum so this one was easy for me.  I have tons of quotes (and I mean tons) that I've acquired from a Quick Quotes weekend getaway.  I used one in this card.

I used paint to hide the adhesive and painted a piece of rick rack green and added some glitter.  Then I put some Prima on it, some lavender pearls, and some tiny strips of paper that I curled around a paintbrush.  I had so much fun making this card.  This one is definitely for my hubby :)

The big banner for teacher appreciation week

Here's the picture of the huge banner I made for Nick's teacher.  All the kids wrote a note telling her how much they liked her or something nice.  My cricut expression was working hard when I made this.

It was Open House night on Thursday and Nicholas was so happy to show off his work at school.  He was so proud, it was awesome.  We had our babysitter watch Lara so Chris and I could both be there and then took him out to dinner.  It was a great night.  It's hard to believe he'll be in 2nd grade night year.    He's getting so big!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.  For those of you that have 3 days off, hurray!  We are having a big family weekend.  My dad is coming up today (I got U.S. Flag napkins, plates, and cookies for him), Chris' family tomorrow, and my mom and stepdad on Monday.  When I told the kids, Lara cheered.  So cute!

Pages in Time Sketch Blog and scrapbooking community

Hey gals,

You all know how crazy I am about sketches.  I found an awesome new challenge blog you should definitely check out.  It's called Pages in Time.  They post a new sketch every Thursday and they rock.  They have cool prizes too.  Unlike some challenge blogs that only allow you to share scrapbook pages done with their sketches, Pages in Time encourages you to post your work no matter who you do it for.  They also have various groups you can join depending on what you like.  For example,  All things Vintage, Pet Owners, 2 page layouts and sketches, Grandma's group, and Flower/Bling Lover's Group.  I can't believe I haven't stumbled across it before.  This is their sketch for this week.  (If you want to do it, better hurry up, lol)

Love it!  Here's what I did with it.  Notice the blue flowers?  (Go to the previous post to see how I made them.)

I had so much fun making this page.  Lots of glitter, bling, ink, and flowers.  That's my kinda page :)
So go check out the new (to me anyway) site and let my know what you think.  If you join, come find me and we can be "friends".   The website is  Pages in Time's blog can be found at

Wednesday Blues - altering a silk flower from Michael's

No I'm not sad.  I've been working with lots of blue today.  In fact my fingers are covered in it, probably for a few days at least.  I bought some silk flowers at Michaels to play with a few weeks ago.  I needed some blue flowers for today's layout and didn't have the right shade.  So I pulled out these white flowers to alter.

First I grabbed an ink pad and inked them up.

Then I put them on some wax paper and sprayed them with glimmer mist.

Finally, I added some Stickles around the outside and some lines from the center to the end.

And this is what I got.  It's interesting that the glimmer mist changed the color from a dark blue to a lighter blue with some shades of purple in it.  Not what I originally had in mind, but I really liked it so I went with it.  Silk Flowers are always so cheap at Michaels, and I picked these up on Clearance.  I think I'll be making more...

Pictures on my blog

Well it had to happen eventually.  I managed to erase almost all the photos on my blog by messing with my picassa album.  Yikes!  I'm slowing but surely putting them all back.  I'm almost to April... minus the Mother's day cards, which I already sent out and don't have pictures of anymore.  Hmmm.  Note to self:  Keep ALL blog pictures in photoshop.  LOL.

***I've got all the picture back up now :)  Let's hope they stay that way!  Couldn't find all my challenge award blinkies so I just decided to leave them all off.  My new mantra is clean and simple!

Thanks for all the love :)

Unforgettable - a card for Nicholas' teacher

After I made the huge sign for Nicholas' teacher's door for the kids to sign, I had some leftovers.  One of the leftovers was the negative space for a red apple.  So I cut it out and use it for an end of the year card for his teacher  The notebook paper, pencil, and letters were all leftover stickers.  Even the popsicle stick was a leftover.  Love when a card come together so easily.

Well, Lara and I have another cold.  I went to bed at 7:30 last night with the kids!   11 more days of school and counting!

It's Monday - Time for a new Practical Scrappers Challenge

This week's challenge is Felt, Fabric, or Tulle.  I love the look of fabric on layouts and cards.  It just adds so much to it.  I decided to make some fabric flowers for this challenge.  I used a satiny white fabric that I picked up at Joann's.  The layout is of one of my niece Teagan.  She's so little here!

I've got another funny kid story for you.  Lara sneaked into my room and found my mentholatum jar in my side table.  She thought she and Nicholas needed a little.  Despite multiple washings, her hair is still a little oily!

Have a wonderful Monday :)

Sketch Friday at Practical Scrappers and some challenge blogs

Good morning ladies.  It's Saturday and it's going to be a great day.  We are going to the park to sign Nicholas up for Soccer and then let the kids run around and then Chris and I have a date!  We haven't been out in ages.  We are going to see Iron Man 2 at the nearby fancy theater.  We reserved our own loveseat for  two.  It's at the Mall, so we are going to eat at Cheesecake Factory for Dinner.  Yummy :)  Yup, it's a great day!

Practical Scrappers has a new sketch out and it's gorgeous.

I also thought I'd share some challenge blogs with you.  Sometimes I like to try out different challenges.  These blogs all have different challenges every week.  No just sketch or color themes blogs here.  So if you need a little push to get crafty, here's plenty of incentive!

Like a Flower

I have been waiting to get these shots from Shutterfly so I could make a girly page with them!  Too many boy pages in a row for me.  It was so easy to get the pictures of Lara because 1. Lara loves to pose and 2. Lara loves flowers.  After she picked her flower, she gave it to me!  It was on Mother's day.  How sweet is that.  Love that girl!

I've entered this page in a few challenges.  It is the last layout I needed to complete for the Let's Scrap Blog hop.  The hop ends today so I just finished under the wire!  It is from the blog hop challenges 1 and 6.  I am also entering it in S2G Challenges which is to use your favorite color (green), Pixie Dust Studio Pixie Challenge (use a pearl), and Ooh la la Creations (bright and cheerful).

We had our new pool installed today and the kids were so excited about it.  Here's a quick picture of them playing.

Have a great Friday ladies :)

I squeezed in a card yesterday for Father's day.  I used a card sketch over at Let's Scrap and a color challenge at Picture Perfect Creations.  When I saw their colors this week I knew they'd be perfect for this card.

I also found out this morning via email that I am the stand-in room mom for Nicholas' classroom.  I need to decorate a 5 foot piece of paper for all the kids to sign next week for Teacher Appreciation week.  Good thing I read the mass email.  LOL.  Guess Nicolas and I will both be working on homework this weekend. (He needs to do a diorama of a Rhino in his environment.)  Luckily, I have the cricut cartridges Locker Talk and Plantin Schoolbook so I can put something together.  Maybe I'll be able to put a dent in my scrap pile.  That would be cool.

Happy Thursday gals.  The weekend's coming :)

Mommy's Big Helper

Nicholas loves being a big brother and showing Lara how something is done.  He really took on this roll when it came time to dye the Easter eggs.  It was so cool to see how patient he was with her explaining how to do it.  Sure made my job easy.  I just sat back and watch the two of them (and took lots of pictures, of course).  I used a sketch from the Let's Scrap blog hop challenge 4. (One more sketch and I'm done!!!)

Today was a gorgeous day.  Not a cloud in the sky, but not too hot because of a constant breeze.  Lara and I went for a walk, and ate lunch outside.  I'm really looking forward to having both kids for Summer now.  I was so happy with the damn inquisitive children this morning.  Last night, one of them was playing with my alarm clock and set my clock forward an hour.  I didn't notice so I was ready to 6:15a.m.  Sign.  It did explain why it hurt so much to get up!  LOL.  So I got a lot done this morning which made for a relaxing morning once Nick and Lara got up.

Have a good one :)

Playing with the Boys

It is dreary here in Southern California.  It's cold, drizzling, and dark.  Yuck!  Luckily (or unluckily) I have lots of laundry to do anyway.  Lara doesn't seem to mind too much.  She been playing happily and watching a little Barney.  Today sketch is for the Let's Sketch Blog hop challenge 8 and 10.  I just found out you can combine challenges.  The challenges were to use green and yellow as a focal point, choose among a certain group of quotes, and use one of their sketches.

Here's what I came up with.  It's a little darker than usual since I couldn't take the picture outside like I usually do.

Who else is doing this blog hop?  Anyone getting close to finishing all 10 challenges?

It's Monday - Time for a new Practical Scrappers Challenge

This week's challenge is to pull out your patterned paper and use it.  Now that a fun one.  Here's mine.  I used Cosmo Cricket's Get Happy line to make this.  This has been my favorite paper for the last few months.  I just love the bright bold colors.  I get happy when I use it :)

Now that's a lot of patterned paper, lol!  I also used a sketch from Let's Scrap for another one of their blog hop challenges.

Have great day,

Saturday, May 15, 2010

I made this layout for Let's Scrap blog hop.  This was a recipe challenge and you needed to use one of their single layout sketches and use lace, ribbon, abc stickers, chipboard, epoxy, a tag, and a punch.   It pretty much shows what our entire month of March looked like!

The twins came through their surgery great yesterday.  Nicholas was so excited about his award.  He ran to the stage and promptly fell on his rear.  It was pretty cute.  The couple next to me said, "You get that mom?"  I replied, "Oh yeah, and I scrapbook."  We all had a good laugh.

Last night we had an earthquake centered about 20 miles away.  It was a 3.9.  Pretty good jolt, but quick.  I was the only one up (at 8:30pm!).  No one woke up and I didn't even get up.  Funny how you get used to these things.

Well, it's Saturday and we've got my husband's parents and grandma coming up for a visit today.  If they are up for it, we will be seeing my sis and the twins today too.  Family day, YAY!  Hope everyone else have something fun or relaxing planned for the weekend.

Sketch Friday at Practical Scrappers

Today is a brand new sketch over at Practical Scrappers.  Today's sketch is a card.

I decided to use a color challenge from My Partner in Crafting Crime for my sketch.  The colors were pink, gold, and brown.  The pink doesn't show up very well on camera though since it is a lighter shade of pink.  I made this card for a friend whose mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer.

Today I am hanging out with my sister at an surgical center.  Her twins are getting tubes put in their ears.  They both get double ear infections all the time, so hopefully this surgery will really help them feel better long term.  Then Chris and I are off to see Nicholas get his kindness award at school.  I'm sure he's going to be very surprised.

I got an award too.  I received a Sunshine Award from Courtney over at A Touch of Pink (  She is such a sweetheart.  She always goes out of her way to comment on my blog.  She makes the cutest cards, including an awesome one of an army guy a couple of days ago.  (Her husband is in the army).  Thanks Courtney!

Okay so the rules of the award are just to send the award to 12 bloggers who brighten your day.  I wish I could send it to all you gals, but rules are rules.  Tough to pick just 12 but here's mine in no particular order:

Jackie -
Betty -
Stacy -
Tina -
Kelly (K) -
Christina -
Barb -
Pamela -
Linda -
Ana -
Mina -
Robin -

These girls not only have great blogs with really awesome layouts and cards, but they all have one they in common.  They are all as sweet as molasses :))

Happy Friday girls.  Try not to hit happy hour too hard!

Hey gals,

I really need to start being less friendly.  Seriously.  Our backyard backs up to open space and has a creek and small walkway right behind it.  Our house is above it, so you only see the top 1/2 of people walking by on the trail.  Anyway, a guy comes through and my little shitzu just went bezerk.  I smile at him, say hello, and tell him my dog never bites.  He actually tried to pet him, but then pulled his hand back when Simba snapped at him.  I was shocked at the little shit(zu)!  Well, turns out the guy had pried open a window and started breaking into a house up the street.  The woman was home, so she when she told him she was on the line with 911 he took off.  Note to self:  Do not tell strangers your dog doesn't bite.  Wait:  Don't talk to strangers.  Duh.  And no, we do not live in a rough neighborhood.  We live in a nice area and there is very little crime.  Thus my guard was down.

Okay, here's today's sketch.  I'm on a roll with the Let's Scrap blog hop.  I had to choose any one of their sketches (I chose NSD5) and make it "scream monochromatic".  These pictures are at my girlfriend Stacy's house.  Stacy and her husband adopted their sweet girl when we did.  So basically we're friends for life.  I got her addicted to scrapbooking though, so her hubby's not as happy with me right now.  His debit card's been taking a nasty hit, he he he.

Have a fabulous day!  Denise

Is it Wednesday already?

This week is just zipping by!  Is this week like that for you?  Today I did a Father's day card from a Let's Scrap blog hop challenge.  If you haven't checked out their blog hop, there's still plenty of time.  The challenge was to use their sketch, at least 3 patterned papers, and 4 brads.  I decided to use only paper from my scrap pile because it is so totally, completely out of control.  I've just been too lazy to look through it when I've been scrapbooking, but I won't throw the scraps out either.  I think I need to make more cards, like 100 of them.

I also want to share that I've had a bit of luck over the last few days.  I made top three over at Partner in Crafting Crime and top 5 over at Scrap it with a Song :)  I also found out on Mother's day that I won this cool cell phone case by TammyI at ScrapitForward, a new blog where the challenge is to make cards etc for other people.  I LOVE IT.  The sides expand so it fits any size phone :)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week too.  If you aren't, at least the week's almost over :)

xoxo - Denise

New Challenge at Practical Scrappers this week - Punches

Hey everyone,

Today is monday so it's time for a new challenge over at Practical Scrappers.  This week's challenge is to use your punches.  This was a tough one for me.  I don't have very many punches and the ones I have, I don't use very often.  For this challenge, I used a circle punch to make my two flowers.  I also punched out some hearts to adhere the page.  I then used a border on a piece of patterned vellum.

Practical Scrappers is also starting a new monthly challenge that is a little different from their usual challenges.  "The first challenge for the month of May is going to be called "Recycle, Renew, Reuse". Earth Day has just passed and we are full swing into the season of Spring, otherwise know as the season the renewal, rebirth, and regrowth. Your challenge is to create a project (LO, card, altered item whichever your preference)using a recycled item (cardboard, cereal boxes, popscicle sticks, plastic...etc)on your project to give it a new purpose than what it was intended."

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.  Love the idea of recycling something on your projects.  Hope everyone had a good weekend.  I got some fabulous hand made cards from the kids.  They were so happy and proud of themselves for making them.  Priceless :)

A trip to the zoo some fun links

I didn't get any scrapbooking done today.  We went to the L.A. zoo to take a picture of a rhino for Nicholas big report at school.  It's a huge zoo and the rhino was not near the entrance so we walked all over and saw all the other animals first.  By the time it was time to do the LONG hike to see the rhino, the kids had had it.  But that's what we came for so we kept on.  We finally got there and... he/she was sick and at the vet's clinic!!!!  You should have seen our faces and heard Nicholas' heartbreak!  Yikes, 0 for 1!  I felt so bad for him.  He was seriously dragging, especially since he's been sick and still coughing a little bit from asthma.  Sigh.  You know I alway tell Nicholas he will always be my baby, but maybe I may be taking it a little to far...

Lara got a shoulder ride on dad while I pushed Nick back to the car.  Ridiculous?  Yeah, pretty much, but the whining stopped so it was all good.

I thought I'd share some fun links with the girls today.  I come across so many cool blogs that I want to share.  Here are a few: - Jennifer is a frequent contributor to Creating Keepsakes, has lots of giveaways, and tons of awesome ideas.  Love her blog. - Stacy is a brand new scrapbooker (though you'd hardly know it!) who has a gaggle of kids to showcase.  She and her husband have 5 adorable kids.  She's new to blogging (like 1 week), so if you have time, stop by and send a little love her way. - This is a brand new blog that showcases us!  Here's their info : Paper Craftorium was created in May 2010 as a way to showcase regular papercrafters and bloggers, who may not always get the chance to be showcased otherwise. It was created as a regular place for regular people to help promote "the little guys" much like ourselves.   .I love love love this idea.  It's so hard when you are starting a blog to get a following. I'm big on following newbies to blogging (scrapbooking bloggers that is). - Deanne at Am I a scrap addict? posts links to free digis every friday!  How awesome is that?

Hope you get a chance to check out these cool links :)  Have a wonderful weekend gals :))

Sketch Friday, 1st grade superhero, and a call to 911!

Some days just don't start off the way you think they are going to.  This morning seemed to be going well enough.  Nicholas woke up a little early which was great, got the kids fed early, got Nicholas on the nebulizer, took a quick shower, and somehow missed Lara playing with our phone.  Now she has only done this maybe once or twice, and never called anyone.  This morning she managed to call 911 and then put it back on the cradle so the line remained open for them.  Doooh!  (Homer Simpson voice)  Thank goodness I decided to call Chris about 30 seconds after it happened on a different phone (the kitchen one).  I picked it up and saw that the line said busy.  I said hello and no one said anything so I hung it up.  Then I figured out Lara must have the other downstairs one.  Mind you, the line is still open at this point with 911. Apparently, the woman heard me ask, "Lara, where did you put the phone that you were playing with?"  (Her answer, "I don't know.)  I found it, said hello again, no answer, hung that one up.  Then I hit redial (but didn't hit send) to see who she called.  91128*  Of all the numbers!  I got a call back from them 10 seconds later and apologized profusely for wasting their time.  The dispatcher was really cool about it.  Sooo embarrassing.

Okay, on the scrapbooking.  Practical Scrappers has a gorgeous new sketch out today.  I just love the flourishes surrounding the pictures.  If you get a chance swing over there and show them your take on it.

Here's my layout for today.  This is Nicholas end of the school year picture.  Did we have so many pictures when we were kids?  I just remember having the one yearbook picture.  Also, yearbooks used to be hardcover and cool.  Now they're softcover and easily destroyed.  Not a big fan.

Well it's Friday.  Yeah!!!!  Happy Mother's day to all you gals out there that are moms!

The M & M Dance

Lara hates potty training.  But she LOVES the m&m she gets when she does it!  She is so cute.  She sings m&m over and over while jumping up and down, laughing, smiling, and sometimes a long long dance.  It is adorable!  So was ready for it one day and snapped up all these cute shots of her.  And it's all in the name of chocolate... that's my girl!

After we get Nicholas from school, we are off to get him his very own library card.  He is sooo excited.  I heard that it is National Library Day today, though it is totally a coincidence we are headed there today.  Have a great afternoon :)

Reasons I scrapbook

I made this over the weekend for a scrapbook challenge.  I love these colors together.  The majority of it is from Club Scrap.  I no longer get their kits though, as I wasn't getting around to using them quickly enough.  I hate to see pretty paper just sitting there.

Yesterday, I didn't get a thing scraped.  I've been inhaling books these last few days.  The latest one from Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels came out on ibooks yesterday and I was busy finishing up the book before it.  If you haven't heard of these novels, they are the ones that inspire the HBO series Trueblood.  I just love them.  Also, Nick and Lara have come down with yet another cold.  It is truly mind boggling.  That's about it around here.  I did manage to read outside this weekend.  Burnt myself to a crisp. Note to self: Wear sun block when you first get back into the sun for a long period of time... It's Charleine Harris' fault.  Got wrapped up in those darn books!

Have a lovely Tuesday afternoon,

It's time for a new challenge at Practical Scrappers!

This week's challenge is to use your stickers.  That's my kind of challenge.  I have way too many stickers. I actually don't buy them anymore because my stash is so big now.  So I love when I get a chance to pull them out and make something with them.  Here's what I came up with:

I placed stickers under the vellum quote so that I would pop it out a little and then used some Prima flowers stickers to adhere the quote to the page.  I used left over alphabet stickers for the title and a cute little epoxy sticker to dot the i.  The pictures of my dad, niece, and nephew.  If you have time this week, submit your layout to PS and you could win three digital stamps of your choice from Wink Wink Wink.

Well, I hope everyone is having a good Monday.  Did you get lots of scrapbooking done this weekend?  Anyone win a prize?

Wherever you go

Sketches! {by tamara} is having some NSD Challenges over at her blog.  The last one she just posted was this sketch:
I had the honor of getting this sketch a few weeks ago to play with, and create a layout to be featured on her blog today.  What an awesome day for it!  I had so much fun playing with this, as you can see.  My son got a hold of Lara's Easter gift from my sister.  He thought the pom poms and flower headband were sooo cool.  He started doing all sorts of cheers for me.  When I told my husband that I was going to make this layout and have it featured on another blog, he didn't think it was such a great idea, LOL.

If you have time, pop on over there ( and enter her challenges.  She's giving away prizes for the winners!
