My Silly Boy

Hey all,

Today I have a layout I made using the Our Colorful Creations sketch challenge.   The picture is of Nicholas right before he went to school for Crazy hair day.  He loved how "cool" he looked with blue, red, and green spiked up hair and thought he looked like a rockstar.  I just love his attitude in this picture.  

All of the paper and embellishments with the exception of the Jolie's Boutique Steampunk border stickers and red cardstock that I matted my photo with is from the My Mind's Eye Funday collection.  The red and blue star stamps were stamped with Colorbox chalk.

I am also entering my layout in the Simon Says Stamp Challenge which is to use three different papers.

Hey gang,

Two posts in one day?!  Gasp.  Thanks for all the well wishes for Lara.  She got some antibiotics yesterday, so she should be on the mend soon from her sinus infection.  She's off at school for pajama day and is happy as a clam, despite still being on breathing treatments.  She is always such a ray of sunshine.

Over last weekend I went to a scrapbook store and saw My Mind's Eye Follow your heart and Miss Caroline collections.  Gorgeousness!!!  So my friend Stacy and I had to snap some up to scrap with.  Here is the layout I made with a little bit of both collections.  The photo is of the trip we took to St. Barts with my friend Stacy and her husband.  It was the most amazing 10 days ever!!!!  The journaling reads, "St. Barts in July 2011 was a dream come true.  Relaxing by the pool, playing in the surf & spending time with best friends. - Bliss"

My layout is based on the sketch challenge over at Once Upon a sketch.  I just love the sunburst in bling up in the corner.  I added an epoxy brad to the center (also MME).

Both the Sunburst and the blue swirls are part of the Miss Caroline collection.  The two gorgeous metal embellishments (butterfly and circular epoxy element w/ butterflies in the right hand corner) are from BoBunny.  I distressed the larger circle and the picture border and inked it in a pretty blue chalk.  I added ribbon to the journaling strips to give them a little pizzazz.  And of course, I had fun adding beautiful flowers and a bit of bling :)

Here is a quick card I made over the weekend.  The design of the card is from Frosted Designs.  I saw the card sketch and loved that it was not only beautiful, but did not need a stamp to complete it. Every now and then it's fun to take a break from coloring images and make a card with scrap supplies.

My card is a combination of My Mind's Eye Funday embellishments and DCWV Coral Couture and Coral Couture Cardstock Stack.  The solid green background is ultra glittery, though it's tough to tell in a picture.  The gold dots and gold lines in the banners have a super shiny finish.  I thought these colors would make it a great card for either a girl or a guy's birthday.

Gather the Rose of Love

Good morning all!  It's been a while since I posted!  The kids have been sick for 2 weeks (and on breathing treatments along w/ me - of course I got it too).  I really hate Winter and all its germs.  Despite being sick, we had plans to visit friends in Vegas, so we packed up our nebulizer among every thing else and hit the road.  It was such an awesome mini vacation.  We stayed with my friend Stacy and her family and it was awesome.   Since Stacy and her hubby have 5 kids, my kids were in heaven playing all weekend long.

Stacy and I managed to get a little adult time too, leaving the kiddos w/ the men for a few hours.  We went to her local scrapbook store, Michaels, saw the latest Underworld movie, and had some awesome Mexican food (might have involved a margie or too ;).  It rocked.

While I was there I was able to scrap a few cards.  This was the first one I did, using my new favorite stamp Stamp It Discovery Collection EZMount Stamp Rose Clock.  I just love how romantic and adult it is.  I colored the image with my Spectrum Noir Alcohol pens from Crafter's Companion.  The yummy paper is the Funday Collection from My Minds Eye.  The red heart was originally boring chipboard that I chalked w/ red and then added red Stickles to.  Gotta have some sparkle right?  I also added a few red bling from the MME Funday collection as well.  The heart doily was given to me by Stacy while I was there.  Loved it!  I also used some Distress Ink around the white cardstock I had stamped my image on for a more aged look.  The layout was one I saw at Sketch Saturday.  As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to give it a go :)

You are my miracle (Practical Scrappers layout challenge Round 4)

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!  <hands waving wildly!!!>  I made it to the top 10 in the Practical Scrappers layout challenge which has been going on for the last 4 weeks!  I am so over the moon!!!!  I entered as a lark, I wasn't even sure I'd make the first cut!  There were 120 very talented scrappers who entered and I feel soooooo privileged to have made it so far in the competition!  Thank you so much everyone who voted for my layout.  What an incredible honor :)))))

So in order to be eligible for the next round I had to submit for the next round not knowing if I made it.  The challenge was to use at least 2 pictures, and use the colors white, black, and one other color only.  Oooh, that was hard for me!  I love color, lots and lots of color.  So I had to take a few days to figure out which pictures and what 3rd color I'd use.  But once I decided, I had so much fun making this layout.

The pictures are from Lara's new gymnastics class at a local park.  She LOVES it.  She literally smiles the entire time and is constantly checking to make sure I'm watching and giving her encouragement (like every few seconds, lol).  I did have to tell her she needed to focus on the balance beam she was walking on after she fell off of it seven or so times in a row b/c she was looking at me instead.  So cute!!!  I matted the pictures with black and white cardstock I had on hand.  I added pearls from David Tutera (Joanns) around the smaller picture of Lara.  The title is from Tattered Angels mistables which I sprayed with Key Lime Glimmer mist and then added a couple of rub-on white hearts from CTMH.

I layered white, lime green, and black ribbon along the bottom, as well as a ton of flowers; Petaloo (2 large black circular flowers and white flowers (which I stickled with white diamond Stickles and added a pearl to), Prima flowers (green), Creative Charms (2 small white flowers with black outline), and one black and white one that I hand stitched from a piece of fabric and then added a really large Pink Paislee bling to.

I also used a small doily and a couple of Glitz circular stickers with bling to offset all the right angles of my title and pics.  I have had the cute little bird on the bottom right of the layout so long that I have no idea which company makes it. This was definitely a stash buster of a layout :)

Here is a close up of the new Crafter's Companion USA Stamp-It Australia Wing Composition stamp.  I used it on a transparency to add a different type of texture to the layout.  The gorgeous heart bling is from Zva Creative.  

The words are part of a poem from Emily Dickenson, that reads:

Hope is the thing with feathers 

That perches in the soul, 

And sings the tune-without the words, 

And never stops at all.

CHA photos

Hey everyone,

I thought I'd like some CHA photos that I took on Monday.  It was huge!  But at the same time, there weren't near as many people as I expected.  It was, for the most part, a pretty quiet environment.   It's geared towards selling products to stores.  There were a few classes, but I didn't know I was going until the week before, so I was too late to sign up for any.  There were also some makes and takes.  Cricut had some amazing ones.  Here is the one I did at their booth.  The flower was huge!

I didn't realize that some booths do not allow pictures (for the first couple of hours I was clicking away happily w/ a bunch of other people w/ cell phones).   All my previous employment has been in government positions, so I wasn't too knowledgable about trade shows.  I found out the hard way when one angry booth owner started screaming at me for taking pictures.  It was awful.  Being a sheltered sahm for the last 10 yrs, it really shook me up.  So I have to say it ruined the trip.  I decided not to go back on Tues and spent the day with my family instead.  I think in the future I'll stick to conferences where I can go shopping and take classes.  Here are some pics where the booth owners where uber friendly and encouraged photographs.  I did not go back and ask the other booths, I just deleted the pics.  I was over taking pictures at that point.  So there are just a few.
